I really want you to pray about this; we need more Monks and Nuns. I almost became a priest myself, but I ended up meeting someone and marrying instead. I don't regret it, I love my wife (and hope to raise a few sons and daughters who might consider becoming priests, monks or nuns). I really want to apologize for all the bad advice you've been getting here. Talk to a priest you trust, maybe your confessor. You could also call or write your bishop, or even a convent. You might want to contact someone through this website: http://sistersofmary.org/
I and my wife will pray for your vocation this evening. God Bless you, dear sister in Christ.

I think its very beautiful that you would even consider dedicating your life to God in that way. "Be not afraid" is what the gospels say. Do not be afraid of what others may think or say. Many people choose a catholic religious life today, and many people in our society are perplexed by it, often because they are not catholic or cannot fathom living life in such a self-sacrificing way. I have thought about being a priest myself...God only knows.
I do not agree that anyone living a religious life is "running away" some perhaps are, but they should not choose it for such a reason. Some find their call is prayer and meditation, some find they are called to be teachers, or to minister to the sick. There are many different callings a nun can follow. The idea that they stay holed up in a monestary all day is, quite frankly, incorrect.
I would advise you to continue to do what you are doing, pray, attend mass. Also, I highly recommend speaking with a spiritual advisor, maybe even visiting a convent of nuns to see how they live. Try not to be afraid, trust that God will lead you where you need to be, regardless of what you become.
Peace to you.

I once thought i wanted ot become a preist but in time i realized that i wanted a wife and kid more and God had a different plan, in time my head went form Priest to Deacon, try looking at other positions in the church, like becoming a carmelite, you have to be devoute to the chruch but you can have a life and a husband in the future, all i am saying is pray about and think, becoming a nun is a VERY BIG decision so good luck, and God be with you!
Peace in Christ

I tell you what if you become a nun I will. I'm being serious here. Not making fun of you. It's scary but who wants to have a normal life. You'll always have a new adventure. But you won't have any kids.
What do people have against nuns?
After Katrina hit a man (some kind of church guy I can't remember what he was) and a nun went to the shelters from another state and as soon as the people saw her habbit they swarmed around her. Just the sight of her gave them hope.
Since when is belonging in the Church a protective place? Is it not the battle front? Why on earth do you think even Mother Theresa doubted God's existence at times? That's why it scares the heck out of people when they think about it. It's not easy (since when is anything involving God easy?) but it's worth while.

Talk to a nun, they can tell you what it's like to have a calling. In the meantime, try finding happiness outside of mass, perhaps by doing charity work.

If God wants you to be a nun, so be it. Just pray to God and ask him to reveal what he has plan and if this is it then he'll show you and you'll know.

When I was young, I wanted to be a nun, too. But I wasn't even Catholic! I just loved the Lord and wanted to serve Him.
There are good reasons to become a nun. But you must come to find those for yourself. The thing is that God will NOT tell you what He wants you to do with your life because He gave you free agency to choose for yourself. He wants you to do what YOU want to do. This is your life.
What about being a nun appeals to you? As others have said, there are many ways to serve God. And there are many people who do serve Him while living ordinary lives.
If I became a nun, I might have been happy, true. But today I am very happily married with children. I have brought them all to know God and Christ. Before, my husband was agnostic. I'm sure that God is happy when He sees the joy He helped create in our little joyful, loving family.
There are so many wonderful experiences for you that involve more than just serving in the church. I understand, in a way, how you feel, because I thought that living in church, spending all my time praying and serving others would be like heaven to me! And, I suppose it could have...
But...this life of yours is for learning and growing. In some ways, you cannot grow unless you are "tried by fire" and experience love, sorrow, pain, pleasure, temptation and faith. You really don't know God unless you know yourself better and that means bringing out things within yourself you never knew existed. I never knew how much I could love until I had a child. I never knew what true faith was until it was tested in adversity. I never knew that in spite of my noble desires, there are ugly facets to my personality and being.
It is too easy to be "good" while living in the protected environment of a church. Going out into the real world, where the battle between good and evil rages, will help not only your soul growth and progression, but you will aid the Lord in the holy war.
Go forth. Love, be fruitful. Be a beacon of Christ-like light to all within your sphere. Spread the love and good will. Serve the Lord in this way, with joy and love. Volunteer in church as much as you like. In this way, you can live the life of service of a nun plus have your fulfilling life as a wife and mother.
When I did some study about nuns, I learned that many of them go into the nunnery because (although yes, they do love the Lord) they wish to escape the real world. They are afraid of something. They feel safe in church, surrounded by the spirit of the Lord. Others know that they would be happiest as a nun. That is a personal choice.
May God bless you in your decision, my love. But rejoice in the freedom to choose for yourself. :)

My advise is do not make any decision in haste. There is plenty of time to think things over. Wait a few years. When you make your decision, make the right one for you.

i wouldnt suggest an extreme solution to an ordinary delima like uncerainty. could you commit to a lesser contribution to the church to see if it suites you like getting more in involved in the church i mean volunteer some time before you volunteer it all.
peace be with you.

You do not need to be a nun in order to better serve God. Keep acquiring accurate knowledge of Bible truth and apply its teachings into your daily life. Once you are fully equipped, it will be your duty to spread out the good news of God kingdom and make a difference on someone else' life.
