It sounds like you absolutly love your dog and are willing to take great care of it. Even though dogs cry, It doesnt really mean there miserable or anything, they just miss you, and they're still happy to be living with you, But if you just cant stand letting your dog cry, then Maybe you should let your dads friend have it, But honestly think, The dog must love you a WHOLE lot for it to cry when your gone, and you must love it a WHOLE lot too.. so do you really wanna give him up?
Good luck! =]

If you can see the dog all the time then i would give it up so it will have time with people all day but if the dog will be too far away to visit then the dog will be fine alone for that long. If you are worried about your dog not getting enough attention then get a person close to you that you trust to come over once during the day while you are gone.

I feel bad for you. If no one else can help while your at school then this maybe the best. You did not say if this is a puppy, how you got it, if anyone is home during the day, and if you are going to take training classes. If any is true then this may be a short term issue. However, if your parents just don't want a dog then you may be out of luck.....
More info?

Well if you can train him to not whine or cry without you you should be fine. Leaving him for 7hrs isnt bad, but he just needs to b trained to be able to do that. Try taking him to obedience school and she if you an train him to not cry, otherwise just leave him outside while your at school and let him cry. Not many people will be there to hear so eventually the dog will learn to be quiet. And give him some toys too.

I'm sorry to say but your dog would probably be better off with your dad's friend.
Once he's through the puppy stage though he would be able to hold his bladder for 7 hours, so that really wouldn't be a problem if he's an adult dog.
But if he's a puppy, then he needs to go out about every 3 hours or so.
Good luck and do what's best for the dog, not for you ;)

Why won't they let you keep it? Millions of people are at school or work every day and still manage to keep their dogs.I think that the dog would be fine while you're at school as long as it has food and water and some toys.If the dog is that attached to you,he will miss you and suffer.I'm sorry that your mother and grandmother are making you get rid of him.

this is why kids should NEVER get pets.. all pets should be "Family"pets or owned by the adult.. kids cannot accept a lifetime commitment - so I ask you WHO DID?? who bought this pet? who took on the lifetime commitment for it?? that person (your mom or grandma) should be ASHAMED of themself for accepting the pet - calling it yours then dumping it becuase THEY are not willing to take care of a pet they allowed in their home...
If your dog is small breed or under 3 years of age he has a good chance of finding a good home through the local SPCA.. if not (big or old dogs) have hard times finding new homes.. then the friend might be good idea...
but shame shame shame on whom ever got the dog and wasnt willing to care for it.. any parent should know a kid cannot care for a dog...

At least your dog is going to someone known to the family so you can visit your dog. I know you will miss your dog but it sounds like your mom and grandmother might be overwhelmed with the responsibility when you aren't there. You have to think of what is best for your dog. I'm sorry.

I think your dog would adjust just fine being left for that length of time. If you have a kennel put him in there while you're gone. He'll learn and you will too that crying isn't allowed and it won't get him anywhere. You can kennel him at night to get him used to it. It's called crate training. Good luck.

It sounds like it might be a good option. If she is your dad's friend, you may be able to see the dog once in a while. If she is more available to him than you are right now it might be the best thing for him. Sorry you can't keep him.
