I recently started seeing a guy that I go to school with. It's been a long time since I've been in a relationship, and this has the potential to turn into something great. My only problem with him is that he is racist and against gay people. My best friend is black and is gay.

My best friend is not too offended, but it does bother him a little bit. He wants me to pursue a relationship with the guy, but is still feeling a little awkward about it all. The guy is amazing, and I have strong feelings for him. Do I give up the opportunity for something great, or having things be awkward between him and my best friend?

You shouldn't even have to chose.. after all, this person is your "best friend" and no guy, especially a "potential" boyfriend should come between that. What happens if things don't work out.. You run back to your so-called best friend?
He should either change his thinking or else, move on.. I'm sure there are a lot of great men out there who aren't racist and homophobic. Your friend might be telling you to pursue it, but you should really consider his feelings.. he's probably more hurt than he is letting on.

is this a real question??? you would actual choose some random creep that is not only ignorant but also has no respect for people that are different from him over your best friend?!?! YOUR BEST FRIEND!!! Hun, the guy is a racist and a homophobe NOT amazing,...the opportuntity for "something great" lies around the corner far far far away from that guy...remember friends are forever, relationships come and go, RESPECT YOUR FRIEND and dump that loser!!!

"it has the potential for soemthing great"
"The guy is amazing"

Really?? Is that what you want in a guy? Someone who hates 2 entire classes of people just because they are different? I don't thin he sounds great at all. I think your friend is just being nice....this shouldn't be a choice at all!! good luck!

your new bf sounds like a sh/t bag, drop him like a bad habit, because by staying with him you are validating his actions.
