Now she has Muscular dystrophy so bad that she can't get out of bed yet she smokes pot and cigarettes. The people that take care of her are allowing that. Which is the reason I need to intervene. She is my only mother and I am her only daughter. We didn't always have the best of relationships but its good now. How can I save her before its too late?!?!?!

If she will sign a power of attorney, that would be the best way. But the problem with that is that she can revoke it at any point. There are only two other things you can do: Go to court and have her declared incompetent (and I don't think you're there yet); or call family services and see if they will intercede. If they believe that her care is inadequate, they have the power to do something about it.

Good luck.

I'm kind of in the same boat. My mom had a stroke last week and is completely paralized on her left side. Ironically, she's left handed. She also has no power of attorney accept in the case of life and death, which is my sister. I have to deal with her apartment complex and that has proved very difficult. I was told to go to the social services office at the hospital and they can help with all of that. I am going in the morning and will find out more then. If they can't help, I'm going to have to hire an attorney.

You need to get a lawyer and have him/her petition the court to get her brought to where you are and take legal action against the hospital.
