No, the medication takes the thyroid secretion back to normal and the cat will feel fine. Should gain weight, drink less water, be less antzy, etc. It can take several months for things to return to normal as the dosage is moderated by blood work and vet recommendation.
Most cats require twice daily medication for the rest of their lives as per prescibed by the vet. If they only need a small amount it may be only once a day.

A hyperthyroid cat is a stessed cat. Their body is working too hard which can cause them to be tired.
Clinical signs of hyperthyroidism are weight loss, increased appetite, restlessness, hyperexictability and weakness.
With treatment the prognosis is excellent. Be sure to have your cats blood level tested as often as recommended.

I had a cat who had that for the last 3 years of his life. (He lived to be 17). It didn't seem to cause him any pain. You just have to make sure you consistently give her her pills every day. I think it's a pretty common thing for cats. Oh, and if the pills get really expensive, just have your vet give you a written prescription and you can take it to Costco and have it filled for a fraction of the price. That's what I did.

I don't think it causes them pain, but it can cause a very fast heartbeat and heart failure. It also makes them hungry all the time. I had two cats with it,and they got very, very thin and would get diarrhea, but once they started the pills ,their weight stabilized and the diarrhea went away.My older one,Barney, developed heart problems from it,though, and dropped dead one day as I was about to give him his pills.Just keep giving the pills and monitor the cat's weight. If it doesn't gain weight,or loses weight, the dosage of the medicine may need to be increased.Good luck.

My cat Padro had this. I had the radio active iodine treatment done for him. He never seemed to be in any pain. At the end, he was cold and tired and just wanted to sleep alot. The treatment gave him 4 months of quality life before he became to sick to treat. Padro was my best friend and I never seen any pain at all in him.

I don't believe it would cause her pain if the Hyperthyroidism is under control.
Usually it will only cause a weight problem or laziness. Causing them to be tired alot.
Which cats sleep most of the time anyway.
But that's not saying that something else wouldn't be causing her pain.
I know as they get older they can get Arthritis too.
Good luck :)
