Yes! My cat just got over this! He had crystals and a UTI, but don't worry your vet will give you an antibiotic for the UTI and medicine and a food recommendation to help dissolve the crystals. Does your cat eat canned food? If not you might want to start feeding him that, the vet will have a prescription food to start him off on. For now you can feed him plain yogurt and even a little cranberry juice and pick up a can or two to start him off until you get to the vet..... Good Luck with your kitty, he definitely has good owners!

Your cat has a kidney infection.
What happens is crystals form and block the flow of urine. They make the most god awful noise when this is happening with them. My suggestion to you (I've been through this way to many times with my cat) when you take the cat to the Vet, be prepared to spend some money. Let the Vet take care of the cat to get him unblocked. He may be there for a few days maybe a week. He'll possibly be put on prescription food, mine gets Science Diet from the Vet. The other thing to do is buy a Brita water pitcher and give your cat water from that as I believe harder water is part of the cause for this problem. The other thing is his weight. Sometime's cat's that are overweight have this problem (not always) my cat started when he wasn't overweight. My cat is now fed twice a day and it's only a third of a cup. I don't do treats anymore because I don't know what can set him off on one of his episodes. Last, if the Vet says anything about doing a (I believe it's called) Urostomy don't do it. That is where the split the penis to make the opening bigger, sometimes it works and somtimes it doesn't. E-mail me if you need to because I've been through this torment. Good Luck.

You've already done the most important thing and made a vets appointment. It may be a urinary tract infection. Some male cats get crystals in their urine, sort of like kidney stones but smaller. Your vet will be able to advise on any det changes and treatments. I seem to recall canned cat food rather than dry. Now there are special pescription diets. And make sure he has plenty of water available. Poor guy. It probably hurts a lot.

There is a variety of possible issues your kitty may have. Blood in your cats urine could be as seriouse as kidney failure, passing stones, "blocked tom", internal bleeding to as simple as a UTI.

Only a veterinarian will be able to make the most definate diagnosis and offer your and your pet the most relief.

Keep your appointment with your vet, and try to keep your cat as comfortable as possible until your ve appointment. Make sure your cat is drinking water.

Best of luck and hope your kitty gets better.

It's good that you're taking him to the vet.
He does have a UTI and with male cats it can kill them.
If they go longer than 48 hours without being able to pee, it will cause life threatening problems.
Sometimes male cats will get a small blockage and the vet will have to do surgery to remove the blockage.
My cat had to have it done once.
And after that he never had another problem with it.
Good luck at the vets ;)

Male cats are prone to blockages due to their unique urinary tract.
Crystals may have formed which causes inflammation in the bladder and now the cat is experiencing discomfort.

This can be very painful for a cat so getting help fast is important.

I'm guessing he has a severe UTI, kidney infection or crystals. All can cause blood in the urine. All serious, but can easily be treated. They will probably want to do a urinalysis and maybe blood work.

what food is he on??if any from grocery store - they are nto as good as the commercials may have you belevie..
fish and milk are also bad for cats (calcuim) and can contribute to problems..
blood could be sign of kidney stones..

more water will help - feed Small amount of CHICKEN AND RICE canned food (1 teaspoon) and mix water with it to make a soup.. this will increase water intake and help..

if in Canada - look for a cat food called NUTRAM it has Lowest Magnesium content (even lower than the 'science diet' crap your vet will probably try to sell to you)

sounds like an flutd (feline lower urinary tract disorder) this can be brought on by stress and especially in male cats needs to be treated quickly because blockages can kill within a 24 hour period. I hope your vet appointment is soon .

Two most likely causes are UTI or crystals in the urine. Your vet can tell. Don't freak out, these are treatable.
