I believe the item to throw at weddings these days is bird seed, not rice. Bird seed can be used by any nationality.

funny but no, i don't think chinese people would throw hamburgers when americans throw rice at weddings. Why? because there are very few hamburger stores in china (especially in rural areas) while rice is very abundant in their area..
