Agreed that happiness is desirable but don't see how focussing on this or any other emotion improves the situation.

One way of looking at it is this thought: godliness with contentment is great gain.

Your question reminds me of a quote by Abraham Lincoln, "Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and remove all doubt".
