Bgrimey: I am talking about spiritual diagnosis, not medical or mysticism. Yes things can be explained medically but they can also be explained spiritually..if you get my drift...

No I am not depressed but I have had times in my life when I thought about committing suicide because of a low point in my life. But I would never go through with it because I love God and I know that He would send me straight to hell if I did. God is my savior, my protector, and my life!

Put it this way, everything that is good is God, everything that is bad is the devil. The devil's purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. Satan does the opposite of God (remember that). God emphasizes a lot in the Bible about having a wisdom and knowledge. This mean filling your mind with good by reading His Word because God knows that every action starts with a thought (mind). Depression is a thought, a mental disease that can get worse if we allow satan to take control. It is feeling sorry for yourself. Jesus said to cast ALL worries away and give it to Him. Pray, Pray, Pray!!

not all ways , sometimes people give satan more credit then he deserves . some people just look at thing in a depressing way . there are true born again Christians that suffer from depression just because of the way they look at things . some people just refuse to see anything other then in a depressing way . satan may lie and tell someone that things are hopeless, but it's the people that has to believe the lie in order for the depression to come. if a person looks at things in a depressed way then they will be depressed , and if a person looks at things in a up-beat way then there will not be a reason to be depressed. God tell us that He is in control , and if we have faith in God then there is no reason to be depressed . or we can go around on our own and believe every lie that satan tell and be depressed . so in the end it 's our fault when we suffer from depression. after all who is it that controls how we feel about things ? that would be us

You don't say if you're depressed or not, but I'll proceed with the assumption that you are.

There's no evidence that satan can control our thoughts (unless, I guess, you're possessed, but I don't think you are).

Depression is common. If you have a chemical imbalance it can be treated with medication. If it's caused by something happening in your life, you can change it yourself, or get help with therapy.

Here's my main point: The devil doesn't cause depression, but uses it as a trap.

Depression can make us do things we wouldn't ordinarily do, like abuse alcohol or take drugs, or seek escape in all sorts of things. It can lead us to be unkind to people.

The most dangerous scenario is when depression leads to despair. When we despair, we give up. We say, "nothing makes sense," "I might as well kill myself," and so on. The devil wants us to give up believing, and to even commit suicide. The worst sin of all (in the Catholic Church) is believing that not even God will (or can) help us. It's called a sin against the Holy Spirit. All of this helps explain why the Church considers despair a sin.

Try to find out if your depression is caused by your chemistry, or because of what's happening in your life.

Keep your prayer life alive.

Remember that most of our happiness comes from deep personal relations with others. Cultivating these helps sustain us.

Good luck and may God bless your week.

Satan doesnt exist!!!! What does exist is the love of God and free will amongst other things. If you are depressed- medically it is a chemical imbalance. There are medications to treat this; however, I feel that the human body can cure itself with faith and decipline. If that doesn't work talk to someone, people helping people is the greatest gift of our kind.

Live life and find something you love to do that way you can distract your depression.

Good luck....

If depression were simply a spiritual attack of Satan, then it wouldn't happen to believers and medication wouldn't reverse it.

Do you think that a drug invented by man would actually be stronger than Satan?

Then again, I don't believe in Satan. I do know though that many have been helped with antidepressants.

If you have been to a Dr. and you do not have a chemical imbalance, a low thyroid or any medical reasons, then, yes it could be some demonic influence like a spirit of heaviness, spirit of grief. BUT you need to see a Dr. First. Pray and seek Gods wisdom

No, not Satan. Sadly, depression is the result our poor choices. We do it to ourselves. It happens when we choose to go without God for extended periods of time. When we lose understanding of our relationship with him and are too busy to include him in our lives. Lack of God, unbelief, faithlessness, hopelessness and insecurity lead to depression.
Lack of worship and prayer can cause this; while worship and prayer cure it. Understanding our need of him, building a relationship and praying, we realize our worth as we are loved boundlessly by our God. When we then set Godly goals and develop Godly habits, Joy is absolutely assured.

Medical depression is caused by a imbalance of chemicals in the brain. By and large, it can be treated with antidepresents and therapy for more extreme cases.

Talking to others about your disease definately helps and if you like talking to a priest or father, then go ahead.

But to say that depression is caused by the devil, is very medieval in thinking and could prevent sufferers from getting the help they need.

Trust me, sufferers, of which I'm one, have enough problems without worrying if a greater force is trying to wreck our lives.

By all means. Satan is the father of lies. He creates vain thoughts within an individual who then believes them and is therefore effected emotionally. This then creates a downward spiral leading the soul into depression or worse.

No, clinical depression has been shown to be the effect of chemical imbalances in the brain. Stop spewing mystical gibberish. People that are really in need of medical help can be mis-lead by thinking "It`s the work of the devil!"
