You should cover eggs in the pot with cold water, bring that to a boil, cover the pot and take it off the heat and let it set for 16 minutes...perfect hard boiled eggs.

Start with eggs in pot, cover with cold water. Bring to a boil. Once it hits a boil time 5 minutes. After 5 minutes of a hard boil let sit in water as it gradually cools for a few hours. If they are extra large eggs you can let the boil go for 6 minutes. Any longer and they will crack and explode.

so to wrap this up 3 min for soft boiled egg so 10 min for hard boiled egg then cool it under cool water and peal it should be a yellow yolk that is a perfect egg good luck

To make good hard boiled eggs, you start then in cold water then bring them up to a simmer, not a boil. Allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes. Cover, then let them sit in the water for about 12 to 15 minutes. They come out perfect.
