Companies are sub units of Battalions. In an Light Infantry Battalion (as an Example)

you have

HHC (Headquarters & Headquarters Company-225 men in Scouts, Mortars, Snipers, Medics, Commo, Ammo, Supply, Intel, Operations, etc.

Alpha Company- 137 Men in a HQ element(Armsroom, Supply, Commo, Ops, Mortars) and 3 Platoons of 3each -9 man Rifle squads, 1each -9 man Weapons squad (2-Machineguns, and 2 Javelin Anti-Tank Missile Launchers and a Platoon, Leader, Platoon Sergeant, RTO, Medic

Bravo Company-Same
Charlie Company-Same

Delta Company (Heavy Weapons) HMMWV mounted M2HB Machineguns, Mk19 Grenade Launchers, TOW Missile launchers- 90 men all told

Battalions can be part of Regiments, Ex: 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry regiment, or 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Regiment. 3 Bn. usually make a Regiment.

first you have a squad - about 5 men. 4 squads to a platoon. usually 4 platoons to a company. You can have as many companies in a battalion as needed.
