i asked this guy that i casually date if he wanted to hang out the other night. he texted me back saying that he was hanging out with a "dude" friend. i found it kinda weird that he just had to mention the gender...like i'd be mad if he just said friend or girl friend. does this mean he sees me more than someone casual? comments?

No. It means he was hanging out with his "dude" friend. Don't read more into it than there is.

uhh well.
Its more than likely he gave you a gender to try to not upset you.
Like it or not the human imagination is very torturous, and if he had just turned you down from hanging out with a simple

"Hanging with a friend" you mighta gotta upset, thinking it was another girl or something.

And if he is this focused on keeping you happy, well seems like he really cares about you.
So you probably mean more to him than you think.
