Yes we should but is it too late I ask? Something should have been done about it 10/20 years ago. The kyoto aggreement was accepted by most governments but rejected by the Australian Gvnmt. Only now are they reconsidering becoming a part of it. It may help with your essay to look up "Kyoto" for more information. Is is relevant to the prevention of global warming. We need to do alot more on this subject. We want to leave a safe and viable earth for our ascendents.

Not exactly. We should develop solar power as best we can, because some day oil and coal will run out. But solar power cannot do everything. It can't power cars and airplanes, because the amount of solar cells needed would be much bigger than the car or plane they would power. And because we cannot make solar cells cheaply enough now, so there is not enough money in all the world to do it. We need to find ways to make them more cheaply. When we do, then every house can have solar panels on the roof. That will help but not totally replace all power. Solar does not work at night, and there is no good way to store energy during the day. Batteries are too expensive and hard to take care of and full of toxic chemicals. So we need a mix of all kinds of energy. Solar would be a great resource during the day in areas that aren't too cloudy all the time. Wind can work in areas that are frequently windy. Nuclear power is good in areas with access to cooling water. I like to think we will some day create fusion powered generators. Certainly billions of dollars of research have been devoted to that idea already. Bio fuels are good too, because they are renewable. We cannot rely only on solar, just like we don't rely only on coal and oil now.

Hybrid cars simply bring the MPG back to 1980s levels. What a scam. We could have cars that have even better gas mileage (or use no gas at all) these days, yet now if we want better fuel efficiency than now, we have to pay more for hybrids that have a lot of the same parts in a regular part that break now and need replacing. We had the EV1 which didn't have all those parts that needed replacing and they were a lot faster than regular cars. And they were demolished without explanation. When progress is stopped like that, I think it's pretty sad for people who actually believe that we're ever going to really work towards using less oil and polluting less.

Solar power is definitely a viable option. It is renewable & freely available. It can be stored for use & transfered to others for use. & since there are many local & federal tax credits it's an easy sell to the average American not to mention the incentive of eventual total freedom from the electrical grid & the ability to sell excess energy back to the electric company.
Not to mention it is not half as scary as nuclear energy (Chernobyl, 3 mile island....).

Solar power plants in uninhabited areas.
Set and forget, except for maintenance, power transmission over long distances is effective. definitely.
drawbacks are only 1/2 day generation, but it's worth it.
What's even better, solar power satellites, in geocentric orbit, 24hr power, maximum efficiency, transmission via microwaves to receiving antennas.
One big benefit, after construction, no emissions.

It would be difficult to convert a significant fraction of our electrical energy needs to solar. Nuclear powerplants might be a better choice, at least for the near term.

Yes, we should use solar power, and we need more monies and research to help make solar power more affordable and usable.

Human-caused global warming isn't real. Although, solar power would be more efficient and cheap.
