You almost never can prove a negative. The burden of proof is on the people making the claim that god DOES exist.

I demand that you prove that your god didn't just create us 1 minute ago, and then implanted memories and evidence to make us think that the universe is older than 1 minute. You can't, can you?

I do not believe in a god (I don't really have a firm belief that a god doesn't exist, so the question is worded incorrectly) because there is no evidence supporting the idea of a god existing.

Atheism is both the lack of belief in the existence of a god, and the firm belief that a god does not exist. There is a difference between the two.

Just rhetorical logic... The damning lack of any and all empirical data to suggest the existence of anything even remotely godlike, let alone a god, suffices.

Sagan's Dictum: Extraordinary claims (that God exists) require extraordinary proof.

The onus is on the believer...

What proof is there that each of the following don't exist?

Unicorns
Dragons
Ogres
Fairies
Flying Spaghetti Monsters
Sea Monsters
Bigfoot
UFOs
The tooth fairy
Santa
Giant purple mongoose which flies through the air each fall distributing free hats.

Do you believe all of those things could exist?

Loads, in fact.

There's always an alternate explanation to events, rather than "It's God's intervention".

And to be honest, the amount of alternate explanations to all sorts of events does rise the question whether or not blaming it all on or crediting it all to God is not just a cheap and easy excuse for the feeble of mind...

How can you have proof that something doesn't exist?
The proof is the lack of proof that he does exist.

There is a broader definition of an atheist. It isn't necessarily someone who "believes god doesn't exist" it can also be someone who lacks the belief in a god.
Dictionary.com states both possible definitions for an atheist.

What proof is there that Odin doesn't exist? The burden of proof is upon the person asserting the existence of a thing.

the same amount of proof that he does exist.

You cannot prove a negative.

And anything short of a bona-fide biblical style right here right now in front of me, miracle is nothing more than a man made construct.

there is no evidence. it's been said though, that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, and this is true. but equally, absence of evidence is not evidence FOR anything. from my perspective, there is just no good reason to believe that gods exist (other than a limited form of existence in the minds of believers).

The burden of proof is one the one asserting existence.

What proof is there that goblins don't exist? Pixies? Dragons? Is there any proof Yoda isn't real? Gollum? Spider-Man?
