in australia you have a leaners lisence for a year and you get it when you're 16 and then when you turn 17 you can get yout green p's (provisional lisence) which you have for 2 years and then after the 2 years you get your red p's (provisional lisence) and you have them for a year. and then you get your full (black) lisence.

It varies by state. For example, in New Jersey you have to be 16 to get a permit then a year after you get that you can get your provisional license, and one year after that is the graduated license -- but if you're getting your license for the first time as an adult, the rules are different.

However, in New Hampshire you can get a permit at 15 and a half, and a license at (I believe) 16. I don't think they do any sort of provisional license there, but its been a while since I've talk to my friend who lives there so I'm not sure. At any rate, you can see how it differs between the two.

Varies from age 14 to 18 depending on what state you are in.

More interesting is this from an article in Wikipedia

"only 43% of American 16- and 17-year olds had licenses in 2002. By comparison, the percentage in 1982 was 52%". "The decrease in percentages are said to be due to the many restrictions that an average teen must face overall in order to obtain the licenses."

It varies by state. In many states it's 15 for a learner's permit, 16 for a provisional license, and 17 for an unrestricted license. It tends to be younger in rural states and older in urban states.

The most common age is 16 for a learners permit. You have to keep that for a year and a parent has to swear on paper that you've had a certain amount of experience. If you pass your road test, you get a restricted license. If you have that for a year without any tickets, you would then have a full license.
