...that God spoke to them, telling them to help me find the Lord.

So: I want to know, not as a joke, but honestly; why doesn't God tell me himself??

Eh; I've had a bad day. For those of you that would prefer to offer a joke, go ahead.

Perhaps you have a better grip on reality. Although I did grow up in a Catholic home and am still surrounded by Catholics and I have never heard of one of them trying to convert someone like this. I would tell her the next time God speaks to her, she should ask him for a cure for AIDS or cancer- something useful.

God does things His Way, not the way we think He should do them. It's that simple.

Perhaps God has made attempts to speak to you directly, but you were not listening, and that's why God has sent this person to speak to you.

Most often, God speaks through people, not directly to them. He speaks to us through others.

Mind you, all this assumes the Catholic person in question really has received a message from God. That is, he is not merely over-reacting to a figment of his imagination that he has mistaken for a message from God.

It's never a bad idea to consider turning to God but, at the same time, it might not be a bad idea to take such claims as this guy's with a grain of salt.

... I struggled for minutes trying to find a response that didn't start or end as a joke. Apparently that person thinks you aren't listening and need them as a hearing aide.

Honestly, though perhaps funny, that is the best kind interpretation I found.

That Catholic person is trying you pull your leg. Those types of Catholics I believe should back off the religion and really, for real, put their faith into God. God will let you know that you have find the Lord God Himself. Don't let that Catholic person put you off the right track.

Sometimes God will speak to you through other people. I don't know why He chose not to speak to you directly, but He obviously wants you to get to know Him, if He has specifically spoken to somebody else about you. You should try going to a Christian church and I'm sure you'll see why He wants you to find him. Good luck and God Bless!

A fisherman was thrown overboard during a violent storm. He found a floating piece of debris that held his head above water until the storm passed. A man in a row boat happened by. "Get in my boat" the man said.
"The Lord will save me." The fisherman said.
Later, a speedboat happend upon the fisherman. "Get in my boat."
"The Lord will save me." The fisherman said.
The fisherman was washed upon a deserted stretch of land. He sat on the beach shivering. Days went by. The fisherman, weak from lack of food and water cried out "Lord, why have you forsaken me?"
The Lord answered "I sent you a piece of debris, a rowboat, a speedboat, and you rejected them. I then had you end up on an isle of paradise. But you chose to sit and wait."

God is telling you. You just need to listen.

Good question. My response to this would be, "God spoke to me too, and told me not to listen to you."
I wouldn't be rude about it, and God may nudge someone to speak to another concerning the Gospel, but to say God told me to help you find the Lord is a little brazen. I have a serious problem with special revelation, which this sounds like.
I don't know where you are spiritually, but if you are one of His, He will draw you to Him. He may use another believer to do it, or He may use other means. But He will draw you to Him, He will not lose one of His own, never has, never will.

He tried calling, but your line was engaged. LOL

Edit:

Why do all these fools think that an OMNIPOTENT god can be ignored by a person.

Come on guys, If a pillar of flame bust into existence in my living room and spoke to me, do you really think that I am going to ignore it?

Or is saving my immortal soul so unimportant to him that he will not do it? Remember, being omnipotent this would take no effort for god to do at all.

Do you believe in God? How do you know that God HASN'T been trying to talk to you?

It may be that this person's purpose in life is to be a missionary of God, or that you're to grow because of this experience....

Who knows? God works in mysterious ways...

Sounds like your friend is doing what he/she thinks they should. However, you are right to feel that you should here the call yourself. Don't judge your friend too harshly, though.
