Every nice and moral passage is always in contect like these ones:
Trust in the Lord and do good...Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:3,4
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
Isaiah 12:2,3
When an atheist puts down a bad passage it must always be out of context like these:
(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

I just had to bring up the hypocrisy of immoral Bible scripture and that Christians always say they're out of context but when they say state moral scripture it is never is out of context.
So when you say you read a nice moral scripture that a Christian is spouting at you, just tell them it's out of context and it actually means something completely different.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now can you tell me why they use Leviticus to condemn homosexuals and Genesis to prove creationism but then say that the Old Testament no longer applies when asked if they eat pork or shave their beards?

ok, the retards will pull statements out of context. And basically as a results of fact which you're a Christian, does not unavoidably propose you already know/comprehend the Bible greater perfect than anybody else. ANY former Christian, would have the flexibility to comprehend the Bible, just to boot as you may, probable(and maximum in all probability) even greater effective than you do. A former Christian who turns atheist or despite, will look on the Bible from a distinctive viewpoint, no longer from the Christian viewpoint, as they have already seen it from the Christian viewpoint, and in the event that they comprehend it adequate to no longer corrupt it, they'd have the flexibility to grant a reliable counter-argument on your statements approximately Christianity. in any different case, they're going to be pointlessly ranting.

The problem is that you can't read the Bible effectively for deeper study (i.e., theological study) without some set of assumptions or rules going in. Theologians call these rules a "hermeneutic."
We all use a hermeneutic - for most new or casual Bible readers, their rule of thumb is to assign the simplest, most modern meaning to any passage and to assume that the translation they are using represents a good and literal translation. That's a good starting point to be sure. Christian Bible scholars - people who really get after it - include a hermeneutic that includes the concept that the Bible is one conceptual whole without meaningful contradiction. That requires much deeper study to correlate passages and cultures.
I think that generally non-theists look at the Bible as either a mythic text or a cultural phenomena, sometimes one that threatens their lifestyles or cultural assumptions. They will approach the Bible in a very different and probably more critical fashion. That's their right.

Isn't it the fundies who seem to have a monopoly on deciding the context of things - even things not directly related to religion (like Darwin's alleged claim of evolution being absurd - even though the explanation for the statement follows immediately)?

athiests, huh.
and what about christians who throughout the ages used the bible to torture women, kill blacks and indigenous people, who to this day quote the bible to ensure that women can't wear pants or why people must worship on a saturday or they are doomed for hell, or those who use the twist the bible so that they can justify sleeping with their unmarried partner...
or better yet, for all those christians who read about sodom and gomorrah and use that to preach about God's *hatred* of homosexuality, yet ignore all the plagues that God sent to wipe out the world for other offenses (the flood: idolatry and pride; poisonous snakes: heterosexual sex with other nations outside of Israel... The only time Jesus lost his temper and went completely postal was because of religous hypocracy). Yet Christians are so much more focused on gays and not on others...
i'm sorry. athiests really don't care about your scriptures. you really should be more concerned about christians taking the bible out of context and then using it to ruin the lives of other people.

This situation reminds me of Fonzie standing in front of the mirror, taking out his comb, a short contemplation, then putting the comb back without touching his hair.
Perfection can not be improved upon.

Atheist's don't believe all passages are bad, they just don't believe in god. They are indifferent to the bible or they've spent years studying it and found that it has no reference with their lives. They believe in their own ways more that the bible's ways. Hope that helps.

They also don't understand that it's okay to take quotes out of context as long as they support Christianity, while taking quotes condemning Christianity out of context is bearing false witness.

Atheists do NOT believe in the bible. Many of them are intelligent and highly educated and may perhaps admire the verses and the lessons it teaches but they regard the bible as like any other books - of fiction!!
The bible is just a myth according to the atheists even though how well-written it is and they compare it to the Greek and Roman mythology. No truth in it!!
Don't bother with them. They wallow proudly in their logical prowess and no amount of reasoning will convince them otherwise on the truths and lessons that the bible carries. You may laugh at them but they're too pathetic to be laughed at. Pity them and pray for them.
