I am reading about Samhain and the Horned God came up. I am under the impression that The Horned God is the primal, active force within all things, a wild man unfettered by civilization and driven by primal instincts. He is the Lord of the Forest and of animals. He is both hunter and hunted - he who slays so others can live, and he who dies to nourish others in the natural cycle. He rules the season of winter, when the earth is dead and primitive people had to survive by hunting instead of gathering or farming. He represents male sexuality, as the phallic nature of his horns suggest, virility, and strength. He is Lord of the Underworld, as indicated in the Legend of the Descent of the Goddess. He is also sometimes connected with the mythological Wild Hunt. Is this true or did I find somthing totally untrue.......

ok because the christians is calling out Satan. i just hadda put my two cents in

The horned god is part of the belief system of pagans. he and the Great Goddess represent two halfs of the religion. each representing different powers and strengths. He is also possibly originated from Pan.

The christian faith, in an attempt to make more people join their faith. made the horned god into Satan and the Goddess into GOD. This was done about the dark ages.
and before a christian jumps down my throat quoting bible refereneces. ill mention that the bible talks about the fall of lucifer. but no mention of a "satan" see they made these two the same but i dont see it anywhere in the text.

I find interesting, it does indicate that there might (only might) be a being that created the universe. TOO BAD it could be any god or goddess. Intel Design has no basis in science.
it is Neither.

This is true in some Wiccan and Pagan traditions but not all of them. This is something that is more connected with Northern and Western European traditions such as Celtic-based ones. The festival of Samhain is actually from this part of Europe. Southern European traditions such as Greek and Roman are different both in the view held of the Gods and the festivals that are celebrated.

Pan (who a lot of people consider to be one of the models for the "Horned God") is not a god associated with winter or the Underworld in Hellenic Polytheism. The association in Hellenismos for that pairing is Demeter's grief at being parted from her daughter, which is an entirely different approach and is celebrated with a festival called the Thesmophoria (which is held around the same time as Samhain)

This pretty much describes many horned gods and the one that I focus on is Cernunnos, but did you also know that this is not an attribute confined only to the gods, there is also a horned goddess, who I am dedicated to, called Elen of the Ways :)

Exciting, isn't he?!? Try a Stang ritual. It's all to honor the Horned God. One of the best and my favorite. He is terribly exciting. Try it and see what I mean. It's usually done by men, but I don't let gender ever keep me from what I want. My candles were blown out and the cone of power, full of beautiful little sparkling lights, like millions of fireflies of all colors swirled around me forever. Funny thing is, I didn't raise a cone of power. It just came as the candles were blown out and I didn't blow them out. Be sure and have some liquor to offer him as he loves it. He also loves pine. Anything earthy. He is all that is wild and free and brings us to that freedom. He is the wild hunt. You have to know your stuff to take on the wild hunt. Stick with the Stang ritual to honor him. Let me know what happens if you decide to do this.

It's mostly speculation, which I think will eventually go the way of the "matriachial Goddess worshipping society" theory.

The Original horned God is Pan.

The original horned god as far as I am aware was Pan (Ancient Greece), who embodies many of the principles you described above. He was also considered mischievous and something of a trickster rather than a strong character. The modern depiction of Satan as having horns is believed to originate from Pan.

In the most basic sense, Pan is known as God of the Hunt...

and most probable where the christians got their depiction of the "evil one most commonly referred to as Satan"

Bless them all...especially the ignorant!

Pretty Poison is right though. You must realize that it is merely an image of the male essence.

It's mythology. You gotta stop and think, the only religion that thinks it's deity is 100% real is Christianity.
