My female Dachshund is afraid of EVERYONE but me. I can't stand it. I don't know what to do! I really bugs me that she does that because when she is outside and its time to come in she wont come to my step-mom when I am gone and then she goes and hides in the bushes. The people I bought her from NEVER EVER abused her, I've known them my entire life. They have 2 other doxies. The mom and sister of my doxie and they are very friendly to people. When I brought her home I just thought it was nervousness from going from one home to another. What do you suggest I do????

I would say invite one person over and get them to spend a few hours in your house. Do this constantly with different people, and hopefully your dog will come out of her shell!

Try to get your close friends/family members to walk up to your dog and give a treat. Then have the person walk away. No fast movements, not talking, just the treat. Once the dog gets used to that then have the person give a treat and touch the dog, then do it so that the person must touch the dog before the treat is given. Once the dog is doing good with family/friends, start working with strangers. Go to the park and ask people to give your dog a treat(make sure that they are confident with dogs, and that they understand there should be no talking to petting).

*Make sure this is on your terms and in a controlled environment!

Good luck!

the dog was not raised with alot of people and that is why has nothing to do with being mean. sometimes you have to realize that a pup needs to be around people alot and be handled alot and this pup was not. you just have to take time and patience but its very hard to get themt o warm up witht hey are old.

I would consider finding a qualified trainer to help me develop a program for overcoming her fearfulness. If you can find one that has the credentials of CDPT (Certified Pet Dog Trainer), they will probably have the training and background needed to help you work with your dog.

Try wearing a halloween costume to first accustom her to different appearances. Switch up the masks as she becomes accustomed to each one.. Go slow.. ! then, try with other people wearing the same mask tossing her food and stuff. good luck.
