I know they are smart and have some what we can call super skills but do they actually think and come up with life decisions and choices? or do they just act according to their instinct?

They definately have preferences as to what food, litter, toys and people they like. They can certainly figure things out and problem solve. My boss (a vet) has a bobcat that was abandoned at our hospital many years ago. She was clipping his nails one day by tempting him with a toy to reach out. Each time he'd reach out, she'd clip one nail (very time consuming process, but you don't make a bobcat do what a bobcat doesn't want to do). After she'd finished one foot, he tucked the unclipped foot all the way under him and sat on it so that he wouldn't be tempted to reach out with it for the toy so that she wouldn't be able to clip any nails on that foot. Pretty thoughtful if you ask me.

well i'll give you an example of my cats

My cat is named Rico and ever since he was a kitten he would play with my brothers cat named jaden well jaden disappeared
and I watched my cat search the woods, the neighbor hood, the city park, everywhere. he would cry out while doing this.
its been two weeks now and no Jaden so now he's become very clingy. He would always be the first outside in the morning now he just wants to be comforted.

I cant tell you if they think but i know they have feelings.

On the news one time I heard of this cat that was lost for 4 years and the owners saw their cat one day. Cats have great memory. Cats have cat and human friends they make a choice to be a freind with that person or cat.

I think mine are smarter
than most people.
Cats have staff,
while dogs only have owners.
You do not OWN a cat.
The cat allows you to
live with him in YOUR house.
I love my little darlings.
They are part of our family.
When the girls call home from school,
They always want to talk to one
of the cats.
When I went into the hospital last
year, I called home every day,
so that I could hear them purr.
Yes, mine make choices about their food.
If Sweet Baby doesn't like it,
he tries to cover it up.
And he IS NOT saving it...
This is his opinion of the food.

we had a cat who had kittens. The kittens were playing on a heater vent that gets really hot, and the mother cat rushed over and felt the vent with her paw, to make sure the vent wasn't hot enough to burn her kittens. I think this proves that cats can think.

I would say yes. Like deciding when to pounce, or when they are assessing a situation. Cats are very smart.

They think the way cats do.

They think--

"I wanna go outside"
"I'm hungry"
"I bet I could catch that bird"
"I'm still hungry"
"That bird is really starting to tick me off..."
"Did I just hear the can opener?"
"I think I'll take a nap."
"Where the heck is my food?"
"That bird looks like it tastes good."

If you could talk to cats, you'd be bored to death. They sort of have a one track mind.

Yea.. they do think. And mainly, they use their instinct to do sort of things.
