They get stronger and can get too strong. They can ferment and then you have pickle whiskey (very nasty). They can get moldy, despite the pickling (after enough time). Homemade kosher pickles done in brine will last nearly a year if refrigerated once they start to turn.

Uncovered or low sodium pickles will spoil or if they have been packed too tightly when pickled (homemade) but otherwise you are fine if you keep them refrigerated once opened.

Over time they'll lose crispness but can last years before they go bad. Usually if you keep the jar clean, replace the lid and refridgerate they'll last a long time.

some jars might have an expiration date and others will start smelling sweeter, taste more bitter, or mold.

they can mold but not really spoil b/c the brine keeps it fresh
