Not that common for crossovers like that. It's more likely for an RN to become an RT than an MD. And Filipino doctors immigrating to the US often become nurses before they make the move here.

Estimated about 2% go on to become MD's and DO's.

A few more go on to become PA's (Physician Assistants) which is one step below an MD or DO, and even more become NP's.(Nurse Practioners) MSN's (Master of Science in Nursing) are also becoming quite popular for those who wish to become Nurse Managers and Directors of Nursing..

I don't think it happens very often. I have worked in health care for 20 years and I never heard of anyone I know who did that.

I know nurses who got more education and became nurse practitioners, though. They have almost all the same authority as a doctor like prescribing medications and making a diagnosis.
