We tried Purina 'tidy cats' litter. it is very very fine and gritty. Our cat has very long fur. He is now not eating or drinking anything and is very sick but vet can't find anything wrong. Only two weeks ago she said he was really healthy. Could he have licked this litter off his fur and now have a stomach full of it? if so, what can we do? Has anyone had a similar experience? Please help.

Absolutely. Changing litter is traumatic enough on a cat, but many cats get sick from ingesting the fine litter that you're using. It absorbs moisture and expands. He could well be blocked. If this is the case, you need to go to the vet NOW.

What???!!! Cats should not be eating their clutter!!! in case you word this, you will desire to make the cat supply up! Kittens on the different hand are basically like toddlers. toddlers are constantly putting issues of their mouths that they are no longer meant to! that's why they'd desire to be supervised and have risky products stored out of attain. once you're speaking approximately an grownup cat doing this...i might heavily evaluate changing the clutter to a minimum of one that is non-poisonous and has no further odors or chemical factors. try a pine clutter. That way a minimum of the cat won't fall ill.

YES ..
I had a kitten that ate cat litter and it caused an obstruction .. which in turn lead to the kitten fitting and having a stroke.. the kitten had to be put to sleep..

I would go back to the vet and ask for a full adbominal scan/ eamination to see if there is any blockage there... if there is a laxative will remove it..

If it has been several days since your cat has eaten then you don't have time to try another brand. You need to get to the vet NOW. Don't wait til tomorrow. Cats can get into very serious trouble very quickly when they stop eating. Good luck.

I don't know if it's litter per se, or maybe something that is in Tidy Cats that he is reacting to? Try another brand and see what happens.

If it's the clumping kind, they can get sick from it collecting in their stomachs. If it is the clay kind, I don't think they would swallow that. Change to Fresh Step; they love it.
