If you like your new place nice and clean don't go changing your litter. Many cats do not like scented litters and will start avoiding the box if you suddenly change the litter. Definately look into what you're feeding them. Fishy foods and lots of low quality brands found at most stores could be the culprit. If you're already scooping once a day, consider scooping twice a day. Also, how old is your litter pan? Plastic litter pans can absorb the smell of the urine and stool over time. It's a good idea to get a new box every year.

What goes into the cat plays a major effect on what comes out at the other end.
Don't give milk, this can stink up a lot, there's too much sugar in the composition and cat digestion can't handle it. Don't give fish flavors, the smell stays through the whole digestive process.
Check what food ingredients are in the current entre and possibly consider switching brands. Also take out of the house any used litter, don't put it into the kitchen garbage because that only adds to the smells.

Cat Litter comes in scented smells that are scoopable and cover the odor up, you still have to change the box at least 2 times a week. If you do not use a liner, get one and each time you change the box wash it out as well, I do have 2 cats and no one ever sees the litter bos. Good Luck

The other answers are good, though a lot of cats don't like scented kitty litter (baking soda is good). But your cats could also have an intestinal disorder, parasites, or something similar that could be affecting their stool. Get them checked at the vet. I understand that you're embarrassed by the smell of their litter box (maybe you should use two), but their health comes first.

Try changing your cats diet around. That should help a lot! If you aren't already, try a high quality dry cat food. Make sure the first couple ingredients are meat, not by products. And make sure the corn products are far down the list.
You can also try Arm & Hammer products. Just sprinkle some on the litter box after you clean it every time.

Try using the cat litter that has pine chips, you mix it with reg cat litter and it helps keep the smell down. I use both and you cant tell I have 5 cats. I was really surprised when I first started using it. You can go to just using the pine chips after your cats get use to it, but it doesn't scoop well, that's why I use both. You can get it at Wal-mart.

Try a scented litter and mix in a bit of baking soda.
Another thing to consider is their food. The higher quality their food, less carbs/grains is better, the less stinky their stool may be.

You need scented. If you're allergic to it or something, I know Arm and Hammer has some kind of baking powder stuff to add to litter to absorb odor. Also, can you throw in some kind air freshener in the closet... something that is an "odor absorber"?
