What is God like? Who is He to you? And what is your understanding of evangelism?

Three questions in one! Wow! I think I'll just attempt to answer one, if that's ok with you.

God has been referred to by some as "Abba", meaning roughly daddy. That's a comforting way to think about Him, for me anyway, because there have been times in my life after my father died when I was just 21, when I needed a dad.

Before Jesus ascended, He said He would leave us a "Comforter" and He most certainly did. No a day goes by that I don't feel His presence and comfort. When my husband died, Abba was close and so precious to me!

So basically, God is EVERYTHING to me. I live my life with Him beside me every step. And for those of you who like to sling insults and call Christians phony, go right ahead. I'm content in what I know is true.

Thanks for the question and God bless!

To me, God is a happy guy with a sense of humor, but a serious side, as well. He's my savior, and not only in the sense that most Christians mean by that, but because he saved me from a life that was NOT worth living. Suicidal thoughts, depression, and having a feeling that no one cared all the time. Thats what he saved me from. And I am forever great full for His help.

Evangelism is "spreading the good news."

As far as God, James 4:8 comes to mind,
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.
The closer you come to Him, the more you will experience and know Him.
Most will say Father, some say provider, some Physician. He has many characteristics and He will show a portion of Him accordingly to those who diligently seek Him. God will show Himself in His own way,

John the Baptist answered for me if you can believe that!

God is love. He is daily my lord and Savior. Evangelism is what Christ commanded his apostles to do once they were given power from on high, being filled with God's Spirit to do so. So Christians today are just obeying Christ's command to continue doing so.

Our finite minds cannot comprehend the infinite God of Heaven. If I were to tell you what God is like I would either have to quote passages from the Bible that illuminate different aspects of God's character or give you my own flawed impressions.

If you want to understand more about what God is like then I recommend reading Knowledge of the Holy by A W Tozer http://www.heavendwellers.com/hdt_knowledge_of_the_holy.htm

God is percieved as cruel by so much of mankind, but what they fail to realize is that He is simply punishing the wicked for their transgressions. God the Father, to me, is exactly that. He lays down the rules for us, His children. We can choose to ignore him and be punished, or we can follow His rules, admit when we are wrong, and ask for forgiveness.

My understanding of evangelism is that is it the same as "witnessing" to others, or missionary work. It is getting out there and spreading the word of God to all who are willing to listen. I do agree, though, that if others do not want to hear it then we should not force it upon them. Forcing our faith will not make anyone WANT to listen and will, in fact, drive them away.

1) God is Love.
2) He is the reason for living. There is not room here to tell all the wonderful things he has done for me.
3) My understanding of evangelism is being nice to people who seem to hate Christ. Lots of them have simply been hurt, and they are hurting. You can present Christ softly and nonaccusatory, like Billy Graham. He names sin, but not sinners.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions;[a] if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
The Father Revealed

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
