If it is a cable modem (i.e. the box only has one ethernet port to plug in either your PC or the PS3), then plug in the PS3, and resart the modem. Either press a reset button, or pull the power cord of the modem and replug it.

This should get an IP adress to the PS3.

However, I'd recommend getting a Router. Ask Comcast for compatible devices. Plug the router into the cablemodem, and your PC(s) and PS3 into the router.

If getting a router is not possible, connect the PS3 with a crossover ethernet cable with the ethernet port on your PC.

Then connect the PC with the modem via USB (if the modem supports it) or a second network card.

Then run the Internet connection Sharing Wizard on your PC.

Hook through a router, than to PS3. By the way, you should use router with VPN support. Wired or not - your choice, if I were you, I would use wired connection, because wi-fi isn't stable, it isn't fun, when connection goes down smack in the middle of the game. If you want wi-fi really bad - make sure PS3 isn't far away from router and there are no obstacles in the way.
