Larger dogs have bigger litters. I think the record is over 20. I will try to find it for you.

Yes it is possible. It doesn't happen a lot but, yes it is possible.
Some large dogs have very large litters of puppies.
You can have the vet check her out and try to give you an estimate of how many puppies she is carrying.
The largest I heard was a neopolitan mastiff having 22 puppies.

I am sure it isn't totally impossible. My lab had 5 litters and she never went over 12. And I think the more puppies there are the more of a chance one of them will not make it. But I am not sure. Good luck! Give those puppies some love from Red!

I've heard of dogs having as many as 22 puppies. But that's the like record I think. What kind of dog is she? My dog had 8 and she didn't like THAT big. You gotta remember how big puppies are when they are born, so if she does only have 8, they might just be big puppies.

the largest litter of puppies on record was 23

That record was shared by three bitches of different breeds - an American Foxhound, St. Bernard and a Great Dane. Each whelped 23 puppies in one litter.

But the record was broken with 24 puppies being born by a
Neapolitan bull mastiff

Yes it is possible and it is NOT rare at all. I bred golden's for many years and 12 or 13 pups can happen and does often!
I had one hugh litter of 16 pups. Only once in 24 years but it does happen.

Geesh, twelve more puppies to take the place of 12 needy, deserving puppies sitting at the shelter, awaiting death.
How sad.

You need to have your dog spayed immediately.
Even one more puppy born to an irresponsible breeder is ONE TOO MANY!

It's certainly possible...I have a friend whose pit bull gave birth yesterday to 16 pups...If your dog has many more than 8-10, you'll have to help the pups when it's feeding time (so that they are all getting enough milk)---and a couple of them may not make it anyway.

Yes it can happen.
Please get her spayed after this litter. There are way too many dogs without homes already.

Yes, larger breeds can, but usually, with that large a number, a few pups may die after birth.
