Just keep your religion in your home and church, and we will not bother you.

That religion doesn't respect other beliefs (we're right and you're wrong...no matter how much study and/or thought you've put into) it so why do you expect any in return? Especially when there are many freethinkers/non-believers, atheists who have more knowledge about religion than the average Christian.

This atheist has no problem with people believing what they wish - if I did I wouldn't have married a christian.

However, I find that often the reverse doesn't hold true and my own stances aren't respected.

Being smart doesn't automatically equal respecting something. Would you respect my decision to worship Satan (if I were to do that)?

For me when I act respectfully of people's decision to believe in God they take that as I sign that I believe in God but have weak faith. Which is wrong! So to clear up any misunderstanding I act disrespectful to people who believe in God.

I don't have to respect anything about you. I don't care what your personal beliefs are, so long as the are YOUR beliefs and you don't try to impose them on other people.

For example, don't insist your myths are taught in schools, don't force women to make the choice YOU want them to make, and if you think gay marriage is a sin, don't have one.

I will respect your decision as long as you don't force your belief systems on me. Once you do, respect is gone since that means you obviously don't respect my atheism.

I have no problem with you believing in God, as long as you don't try to force ME to believe in God, or try to force me to live my life according to your religious beliefs, and as long as your religious beliefs are kept out of my laws, schools, and government. When your religious beliefs infringe on my rights, then I don't respect that.

I don't respect it, but I respect your freedom to believe whatever you like.

Just don't try and teach it in science class or use its laws to influence my government.

Respect is a two way street. Respect is also earned, not freely given.

Beleive what you want, but realize that belief doesn't shange facts. Belief doesn't give you the right to make your morality a law (same sex marriage, stem cell research, abortion, etc). Belief doesn't give you the right to have "pseudo-science" taught as an alternative to proven facts.
