I never seem to have the motivation or energy on the weekend. During the work week, I feel more motivated because it's work, but during the weekend, I have really lost the sense of how to enjoy myself fully. I go places, but never feel like I totally enjoy myself. Most times people ask me what is wrong. I usually hang my head and feel less than satisified with life. There are times things need to get done around the house that I never start. Instead, I do nothing, even though this will obviously cause me inconvenience (or worse) in the future. I have suffered from depression in the past and have taken medication for it. However, my life situation is better, but there is no other explanation for my lethargy, lack of motivation, or being just unhappy with life. I am familiar with mood disorders and this is sounding more like dysthymia given the length of time that I have felt this way.
Thoughts?
What depressive medications help the most with motivation?

First of all, ONLY a doctor can tell you what's best to take; and even then sometimes you have to try more than one medication to make sure it works well with you (afterall, we're all made differently so meds react differently on everyone, and no on can be certain what will positively work for you). I've been going through this for over 25 years now. Depression runs in my family bloodline, but I wasn't diagnosed or even considered to have it before 1980 (in the 70's I only cried in the dark, when I was alone, or hiding so no one could see me crying).
Again, only a doctor can diagnose this, but it sounds like you may be experiencing bi-polarism (ups and downs in depression). Your situation sounds EXACTLY like me.
Good luck. Best of wishes. And most of all, "don't worry about things so much; give it to GOD to worry about and fix, let GOD have it, then let go of it".

Dysthymia sounds about right. It's easier for me to get thru the week since it comes with a must do schedule (i.e. work) and the structure of work and meetings is a fairly effective distraction. Plus, work isn't something you're expected to be all excited and happy about, anyway.
Wellbutrin tends to provide many with some energy and mood improvement. You might talk that one over with your doc. There also are any that have been effective for you in the past. Aside from meds, there is Omega 3 fish pills. There is some legit science suggesting efficacy, and it was my psychiatrist who recommended them. If you want to try this route, what you need is 1000-3000mg of the ingredient EPA. That's 2-8 pills depending on amount and brand. Btw, if you open the bottle and it smells... take it back! If the bottle doesn't break out EPA and DHA, move on to the next brand. A good health food store or Trader Joe's are where I buy them. For me they're helping hold off depression. You should know in a week or so if they work for you.

Maybe you should talk to someone about this. I know that I am so exhausted after working all week that I am not that motivated to do anything, and I don't expect to be motivated, but you may have different expectations. I think you should examine all aspects of your life. I, myself, would seek to avoid medication and look for some strategy or plan to follow to get me out of this. Medication could help, but eventually you might want to develop a life plan so you don't feel this way. I have come to grips with my situation. I like to just relax, but what I find relaxing most people would not.

WOW, I have that same problem. I never feel like I enjoy anything I do. I am in a constant state of apathy(boredom?) I suspect we are maybe borderline depression? I used to take Zoloft and felt much happier. I felt so happy that I stopped taking it because I felt all better. But now the old familiar feelings are coming back and I am thinking about starting my medicine again. You should probably go back to medicine too, because we are never fully cured. It is a lifelong battle, I know, because both of my parents are still having the same battle also.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert. In fact, I'm probably one of the least qualified people you could find to answer this question. But if I may say so, it DOES sound like you are depressed. I think, however, that I know the reason WHY you are depressed. You probably began with feelings of sadness or just...well, mild depression. For most people, I think this would pass fairly quickly. However, like me, you read up on it. You made yourself familiar with the terminology, the different symptoms. You made connections, making you believe you were depressed. You now have "evidence" that you are depressed, so, due to this psychological support (Which is actually negative in this case, despite the good connotations with the word "support"), you continue to be depressed. You cannot convince your brain that you are happy.
I cannot give advice on medications or solutions to your depression. You seem to want to be rid of it, so I can suggest that you make yourself aware that psychology is nowhere near being a perfect science, and that much of what you read MAY BE false. I won't say this will cure you, but I believe it will help.
I wish you luck.
