This approach by Ulrich Zwingli was necessary to give some credibility to the new Protestant movement which denied the successive apostolic leadership of the Church established by Christ. These reformers knew full well that they had no true legitimacy and no authority from Christ. They also knew that without a legitimate episcopacy that they could not continue Holy Orders, the Sacraments nor do they have the authority to confect the Eucharist which authority can only be given by Christ through the Church. Therefore, they could not continue the Eucharist even if they desired without a valid priesthood.

Steve Amato,
So you believe that Christ started a Church that is occult and deviant. So much for your belief in the veracity of Christ’s teaching. Do you really believe that Catholics believe that they are murdering Christ or that they even could if they wanted to. If you believe that you can be led to believe anything. The truth is that Catholic do not claim that the miracle of the Eucharist comes from anywhere or anyone but Christ. BTW, the Eucharist is never ending until He comes again at the Parousia. No pope that I have ever read has condemned non-Catholic Christians to hell nor has any Pope claimed the ability to do so. All the teachings of the Church are supported in the book created by the Church called the Bible. Don’t forget that the leadership of the Church was hand picked by Christ and called the twelve foundation stones of the Church.

In the Transylvanian(Unitarian Socinian) and Polish(Minor Reformed Unitarians) Reformations the denial of the Real Presence led for many to denial of the diety of Christ," the Real Presence of God in Christ",so to speak. In rejecting and ridiculing the Eucharistic Miracle of the Corporeal Real Presence of the Catholic, Orthodox and Lutherans, the Reformed opened the door to rejecting and ridiculing all miracles. This rejection of the Miracle of Love in the Real Presence culminated in the 18th Cent Deist rejection of all miracles including all the Biblical ones like the Virginal Conception and Bodily Resurrection as a matter of"Newtonian principle". Nineteenth Century Atheism was not far away.
The Lutherans wanted to continue with Apostolic Succession Episcopate(but not out of theological necessity since for them Ordination was not a real Sacrament of Jesus' institution) but in Germany they did not because they bishops were tied up with the civil rule and apart from Von Wied and Vergerio(maybe)no bishops followed into Lutheranism. In Sweden most of the Catholic bishops went along with the rformation and Swedish/Finnish Lutheran bishops claim Apostolic Succession.
The Lutheran reformers thought that they were restoring and reforming the Catholic faith and freeing it from the "corrupt control "of the popes and other worldly curialists.
.
While it is a strong temptation to give back to Fundamentalist Protestants what they dish out to everybody else, we Catholics should not return the nastiness especially since our theology of grace does not rule out the Holy Spirit reaching out in Love beyond the vessels of the Holy Sacraments and the Christ-founded Church. Questioning and examinining their being "saved",however, might be spiritually useful to FPs especially if they are OSAS folk.
Above all let us pray for them and ask their prayers for us.

Catholicism is an occulticly deviant denomination of Biblical Chrisitanity. For example they believe they can transmute Christ into a piece of bread and then murder Christ on a weekly basis to atone for their sins. Yes there was certainly need for reform. Their alleged "leadership" were like the wolves which Paul predicted in Acts 20 would devour the flock. They have corrupted the body of Christ and cut themselves off from the head replace Christ with their Pope who condemns all non-Catholic Christians to hell. For this an other ways they deviate from the Bible see http://www.bcbsr.com/topics/catholic.html

That about sums it up. I'm not hep to Reformation theology by any means, but my friend (who is) claims that Luther and Calvin both expressed a desire to restore the episcopacy. The Lutherans even tried to secure legitimacy from the Patriarch of Constantinople.

Because the goal of the evil one is to divide and conquer the church of Jesus Christ, to kill and destroy, to stop the people of God from having fellowship with one another.
The world will know that God has sent us by our love for one another, but by dividing us and tearing the body of Christ apart the evil one can conquer us without a battle.
Do whatever you can to not be a tool of the evil one, do not cause division or offense in the body of Christ throughout the world but be part of the solution. Be a one who heals the breach.

...hmmm an exciting guy, a radical particular, however the main radical? "period in-between, much greater radical reformers, reported as Anabaptists, asserted themselves in Zurich, and Zwingli grew to grow to be in contact of their suppression and execution, alongside with the 1527 drowning of Felix Manz. Tensions between Zurich and Switzerland's Catholic cantons brought about warfare." with reference to the doctrine... properly, right that's greater of a biolgraphical word on him: "Ulrich Zwingli's insistence that the Bible, no longer the church, replaced into the source of Christian fact made him a important stress interior the Protestant Reformation that swept Europe interior the sixteenth century. Born to a village bailiff, Zwingli studied in Basel, Bern and Vienna before transforming into to be a Roman Catholic priest. He replaced into appointed in 1519 to the large Minster church in Zurich, the place his transforming into Protestant convictions at as quickly as grew to grow to be sparkling. In 1522, he proclaimed the Bible, no longer Catholic hierarchy and custom, to be the only source of Christian authority, and he persuaded civic leaders and the church homes of Zurich that issues no longer prescribed interior the Bible had no place interior the church's existence. In 1524, photos, statues and relics have been faraway from the city's church homes -- reforms greater radical than those of his German modern-day, Martin Luther. the two Reformers' surprising distinction replaced into over the character of the Lord's Supper. At a 1529 debate, the Marburg Colloquy, Luther argued that Christ is somewhat modern-day interior the bread and wine, on an identical time as Zwingli held that that's a symbolic meal. Such variations created long-lasting, uncharitable rifts between what got here to be widespread as a results of fact the Lutheran and Reformed branches of Protestantism. "

So it's sorta "sour grapes," huh? The same people who get veritably purple-faced about "you must read everything in the bible literally" decide that "Take and eat. This is my body" and "If you do not eat of my body and drink of my blood, you will not have the Kingdom of heaven within you" wasn't literal, it was just symbolic. Go figure.
Looks like CJ the champion of all things narrow and fundamentalist, has met his Catholic equal in Skittles there.
You go, Skittles!
