Scripture forbids it. Try Romans 1:26-32. Or 1Timothy 1:10. Being gay is a sin, but so is gossiping, lying, and taking the Lord's name in vain.
Let he without sin cast the first stone...

The bible must be considered in the historical context in which it was written. Modern "translations" do not take into account the vastly different social and religious conditions which existed at the time. Modern words, such as "homosexuality", did not exist in the original Hebrew and this must be factored in also. A quick Google search on "bible homosexuality context" will turn up a plethora of very good papers which explain this much better then I can.

There is the old verse in Leviticus that says a man should not lie with another man as he would a woman. There is also a verse that says the same for a woman. It says in 1 Corinthians that, among others, homosexuals will not inherit the Kingdom.
Just the very design of male and female (physically, psychologically, etc.) shows that male and female together are the image of God and fit together very well. The reason for homosexuality being wrong, is that it goes against the design for intimate relationship.

From the above answers, it looks like Romans 1:28 says that god gave the gays over to being gay -- that is, god/he/she created them that way.
I guess the bible therefore is also authority that being gay it is not a lifestyle choice but a god given "gift".
Why would an intelligent designer do these crazy things to people?

Rom 1:
18: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
21: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22: Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
24: Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
26: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29: Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30: Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31: Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

The Bible spoke of homosexuality.
Leviticus 20:13
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Romans 1
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
