What should I say?
I would like to consider a Female single sex college such as Smith, but I don't know how to tell my dad. Every time I bring up the subject he asks "Why would you want to go there?" Then he tries to be all jokey and say, "Are you trying to tell us you're lesbian?" I am not, I want to go because of the leadership oppurtunities and the academics but he won't listen. But mostly because I need to find myself and I want a place to do that. If anybody could help that would be great.

Google, the benefits of a single sex college and then talk to your dad about the benefits of going to a single sex college and you could tell him, there won't be any guys around our campus.

Is your dad paying for your college? Do you know what you want to do in college? Can you just answer the question, of why do you want to go there? I know you said leadership opportunities, and that is really good. How can we tell YOU what to say about a college YOU want to go to..ya know?
You should try answering his questions...
I'm not knocking you, I commend you for wanting to go there, I just think you should be understanding, in some way of him asking you, and not try to make him wrong, That doesn't help YOU. Especially if he's paying. Believe me, I've been there.
I also know that, I have been promiscuous in the past and think that an all-female college would do me some good to get away from the pressure of male attention. Just wondering if that's at all why you're interested.
Just so you know, I do think your idea of going to Smith is cool.
Good luck!

Keep trying, and keep telling him you are serious. But have the facts ready to present to him about how this will help you, and how you hope to pay for it. Show him what is available for financial aid, for example, and find scholarships, loans, etc that you qualify for. Compare these to the local state schools that he might want you to go to. You'll have to be persistent. It may not work, but keep in mind that you can always transfer there if you have good enough grades from your local school.

You don't need your dads approval. If you get accepted, he won't be mad, he'll be SO excited, no matter where it is or who goes to it.
