olive oil in small amounts is an essential fatty acid, they need it. omega-3 is avalable in a squirt bottle. follow instructions. too much oil thins out blood vessels and may cause bleeding.
sardines are good if your dogs like them. my dog does not eat sardines, he lifts his leg aiming for the dish
most commercial dog foods do not have good fats in them. animal fats have concentrations of pesticides and mercury and other toxins. also just plain disgusting to think how they process the fat into the food and preserve it. if they use vitamin E to preserve food it's better than chemical preservatives. I do not feed my dog any chemical preservatives.

You would be better off with a fish oil for the skin but olive or corn oil is fine every day in small amounts added to his food. You shouldnt need more than a teaspoon or 2 depending on the size of the dog and the condition of his skin. Keep an eye on his weight too, there is a lot of calories in oil.

Olive oil every day is great for your dog's coat and skin. The amount depends on the size of your dog - from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon for most. My dogs are all about 70 pounds and get 1 tablespoon a day, or a salmon oil capsule or a flax seed oil capsule. Dry dog food doesn't contain enough oil to keep a dog's skin and coat in good condition, especially in the drier winter months. If your dog gets as much exercise as he should and isn't overfed, the bit of extra oil won't put weight on him if that's your concern.

Nah. No problem. I even give my dog bacon grease. The fat is good for their skin and hair. Remember that dogs are not human, nor do they have the human digestive system. They are historically genetically geared for eating carrion, so some oil won't do any harm at all.

Great for the heart and for the coat, too. Not too much, though. Like a 1/2 teaspoon per meal will do.

Use proper Omega 3-6-9 oil blend.
Late Entry : Dear expert rating this answer negatively. I really doubt you have the slightest clue, what essential fatty acids are.

Few drops is OK. 1 table spoon every day is to much. you could ruin the natural intestinal layers, for dog skins, chicken skin do the best job.
