Do you have a swimming pool, a kid-sized 2 foot tall? What about a slip n slide? or even a sprinkler? Take him to the zoo or a movie. There's some good children's movies out now. Work on the yard and let him help. Wash the car and let him help. Take special family trips (like the zoo) or work him into everything you're doing. He can visit the grocery store or help you sort clothes.
My kids spent at least an hour every day in the swimming pool or the sandbox.

Depending on where you live there is usually some event on in every town close to you, just keep checking on the internet and take him along to that, days out are a really good one we try to plan one every weekend. also you could join him up for swimming lessions if the local pool do this on a weekend it is good cause the dad can come along and see his progress as well. check out all the local sports clubs cause they can have littlies football and all sorts, you could get a kite and fly that when its windy, go for walks around the town on a scooter/bike. then for the wet days at home you can always do the traditional baking, colouring, painting, arts and crafts etc...

There's lots to do, take him to the park and have a picnic, if your in the Los Angeles area there's a magazine that is free called L.A Parents with tons of activities for kids...or you can sign up with Go City Kids.com to recieve weekly emails about what's going on in your city for your 4 yr old...
Have fun!

I went to the book store and bought a book, Fun things to do with kids in Connecticut, when my son was young. Then we'd do day trips and explore. Most was free or cheap and we got to explore the state we lived in at the time.

Go to a park and have a picnic or go to the mall. My son loves the mall. I do one thing I need to, and then take him to the Thomas Store. Also, try a local children's museum. check your local parks and rec for some sport ideas. You can also go for a walk or bike ride.

My dauther is four years old and just running around a playground is great exercise for her. . . climbing and running around for a half hour or so is a great way for them to get some physical activity.
Also, the zoo, aquarium and child specific museums are great activities.....petting zoos and farms are also nice this time of year . . .

That's because most things require your participation to make them fun! My nephew has a blast when we go to a museum that has child-friendly exhibits. Check out what's local to you and see what fun you can have with exploring and expanding your son's mind. :)

You can play with him with toys and teach him how to play. You can do craft projects with him. Easy ones. It will teach him motor skills. You can really teach him alot at that age. Start teaching him to read by reading to him. You can play ball with him. Go to the park. Teach him to swim. Buy him toys and let him play by himself while you watch him. Let him help you around the house. You are teaching him as you play with him. Talk to him and use adult language not baby goo goos and such.
