Look before you leap. Envision the possible outcomes of your actions. It's just a skill to develop if you don't want to constantly be in trouble for not thinking things out first. Acting on impulse can be very irritating to others, and buying on impulse can be devastating.
Honestly, I think it's a character trait. You were born with it that way, and you can change it if you work at it, but it's really just the way you are.
I'm bad at impulse purchases. Picking things up that I don't really need wastes a lot of $$.

Some people just live by instinct. Not that that is always a good thing...lol. I sleep on any major decision before I make it. Thats a rule. If I want to buy something over $100 I sleep on it first to decide if I really want it. I also try the three second rule : count to three before I say or do anything that could affect the future ( like before I answer someones question). Just little things like that can prevent you from making mistakes, but DONT be too hard on yourself. Sometimes the instinct can be right. And if you never take chances, well that just sounds a little boring.

It depends on many things...situation, the consequences that will happen if you choose this or the other. And whether or not your willing to care about dealing with the outcome. But some people don't deal with the outcome so it makes it easy to just plunge foward and do what they wish. But sooner or later the scales will tip and you will have to deal in some way so maybe STOPPING now will help balance the scales in your favor, and STOP to think things out before action.

It may suit your personality to act without thinking, but it can also have negative consequences for yourself and for others who didn't ask to be a part of your spirituality.

You have revealed the answer in you question. You state you "prefer" to act without thinking and until you decide or there enough negative reinforcement to change your behavior you will continue as you are

I would recommend looking into Buddhism...they have a philosophy of being self aware and being very conscious of every action and consequences. Meditation can help you with this. It's good to try to think things over, but it also may be good to listen to your intuition/instinct. Try to find a happy medium.

I think before I act, not before I talk though.
I'm the kind of person who outweighs the pros and cons of doing something.

Most people are reactionary.
It's hard to have something happen to you, pause and think, and then react.
