The public transit system is continuously expanding and can get you just about anywhere in the 5 county metro area. Some may find the buses & rail slow but those who complain do not realize the vast size of southern California compared to other large cities. Overall, the transit service is cost effective, safe & clean. The primary system is the MTA which operates most bus routes and all Metro Rail subway & evevated lines. There are also several municipal operaters who provide additional bus lines throughout the region and lastly the regional MetroLink rail system which is great for longer trips to outlying areas. The routes specific to your request for service between the westside & the Valley would be the MTA line 761 Westwood/SF Valley Rapid or LADOT line 574 West LA/ SF Valley Express. Good luck!

This question calls for the services of mobilemark. There should be a bus that kind of makes a loop from the Westside up Sepuvedia to Sherman Oaks to Universal City to Hollywood and back to the Westside.....but I don't think there is one.
