A psychologist is not a medical doctor, and almost all colleges and universities that offer a 4-year course in psychology will provide you with an adequate beginning.
In high school, you simply have to do your best in all your classes. A very few offer a semester of psychology in your final year. Don't worry if yours does not; you will have to start with an introductory class in your freshman year in college anyway.
Cornell, Yale, Rutgers, Harvard - all offer excellent opportuniites, but you do not have to attend a big-name, Ivy League college. State colleges will give you all you need for that initial four-year degree. You will find, though, that it's an exceptionally popular course of study, and there are so many folks out there with four-year degrees in psychology that getting work as a psychologist is exceptionally difficult. One needs to go well beyond that - a PhD in psychology, however, is no guarantee of a job.
If I may make a suggestion - consider going for your degree in public health administration or becoming a public health nurse. Public health nurses - men and women - are in demand, particularly within the Armed Forces. Either of these can find work in municipal, county or state offices. There's a wider variety of cases to deal with, and I personally think the education required of such folks is more diverse and prepares you better for a wider variety of health-related careers. An excellent school of public health is located in Cortland, New York at State University of New York at Cortland. That's just an hour south of where I live. I trained elsewhere - St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Elmira, NY - class of 1978.
Whichever you choose - good luck.

Go to your guidance counselor at school and talk to him/her about your dream.
Basically you need three things: a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate in psychology. You would have to major in psychology in college, too. You would have to get good grades, do some undergraduate research, volunteer work, etc. etc. Those will look good on your resume for not only work but for possible grants and fellowships as well as graduate and post-graduate school applications.
Good luck and God bless!

Mental well being issues, and loved ones issues similar to abuse, and mistreatment can do profound matters to a individual. While tearing you down for decades, ultimately you'll pop out as a higher individual. Envision this: Imagine seeing a sufferer with the identical existence experiences as you, identical issues you had, and bet what? He is clinically depressed. You realize precisely what he went via. His soreness and your soreness are just about same. How a lot more inspired at a human degree, no longer a benefit degree will you be to support him? You will probably be ready to connect with this sufferer and lots of of your different sufferers in some way that no different Psychologist who got here out of a hot and fuzzy main issue much less early life will. Lets deliver you one more sufferer, a rundown teen, attempts difficult in in categories. Diagnosed with ADHD as a label when you consider that he could not specific himself. Told he used to be vain because he would recognize what used to be being stated to him. He thinks he sucks, no girl could ever desire him, he would by no means galvanize his father, or do something proper. He used to be depressed and dwelling existence in a comatose autopilot, fending off socializing simply to get via everyday. (Me at 15) Sounds lovely miserable to me. 20 greenbacks says you would relate Props for pulling out of that. Depression sucks, been there. I believe you get what I imply. And as a factor of reference, I noticed a psychiatrist who is dad dealt with him like sh!t similar to mine did to me, and it created a main issue with male authority figures later in his existence. He fully involving me and quite helped me. Plus he used to be manner cool. Peter M: Your a douchebag. Brent: You would use a few recommendation on fitting extra mentally powerful when you consider that then you definately'd realize CLINICAL DEPRESSION IS NOT MENTAL WEAKNESS.
