The claim that Iran has not attacked us is invalid. We drag our feet in retaliation because we are concerned about world opinion. Our children and many innocent civilians are being killed by Iranian bombs and by Iranian trained militias. The oppression of the Iranian people is easily observed by anyone who wishes to investigate.
The Iraqi dictator, who invaded Kuwait, was defeated in the first gulf war we entered. He violated the terms of his surrender and thumbed his nose at the entire world community. The mass murder he perpetrated upon his own people was brought to light many years before he was finally deposed.
The people of Afghanistan were in bondage to the ruthless designs of a mad ideology for many years before the events of 9/11. Those who perpetrate that ideology in that region are now running from place to place in an attempt to find safe haven while still clinging to the wickedness they espouse.
What a foolish and destructive notion it is to assert that the only justification for intervention should be based upon the events of one day. That day only served to cause enough pain to arouse sleeping good men from their slumber.

Well, actually they do have freedoms. In spite of the fact that they are a God fearing nation they have elections. Ahmedbillybob was democratically elected. The consensus in Iran was that even though he was a bit right wing and a religious fundamentalist he was preferable to the blatant corruption of the president they replaced with him.
Keep in mind what the truth of Iran under the Shah Pahlahvi Reza was like for the Iranians. The Shah ruled as a military dictator and used death squads freely to deal with any opposition to his policies. The Shah came to power in a USA supported military coupe that replaced the Democratically elected Iranian Gov. in the 1960s( date?)
When the Iranians rebelled, replacing the Shah with the Ayatollah not only did they get rid of the Savak death squads, they got rid of American control over their country, and what is critical, American control over their oil reserves.
Bushco wants the control over the oil back.
Maybe you should make use of the Internet to actually look into Iranian politics and history instead of just swallowing what the religious right and the Oil company dominated Republican party tells you.
I am not against the idea of the war for oil. It might actually make sense to use the military to secure other countries resources for the use of America. I doubt if you could morally defend it but at least it would be an honest policy, and everybody would have a good idea about what the real war is about.
------------
The poster under me does not seem able to distinguish between different countries and likely just lumps everywhere in the Middle East and Asia together as "over there."

Reading answers, some are sooo concerned that the only reason we went into Iraq is because of oil. That is not true. It is true there are regions that Iraq is considering to divide into different states according to oil. Where the Sunnies have less oil. But I think the reason Saddam so attacked the kurds & Kuwait is because of their oil. He wanted to be in control of it. The US doesn't want to be in control of the Iraqi oil But does want a democratic Iraq to be in control of its oil according to who is on the land & who owns it already. If people who own the oil reserves got it by genocide of people in the land, then it should be returned to those people who it was stolen from. I know that genocides have happened at the hands of Saddam. And so? Who owns the oil now. The murderers or the once who were there first?
We (US) defended Kuwait, because they had the oil reserves & they also didn't demand outrages prices. Iran has oil reserves, but want to have nuclear energy in addition. So? Why? But to make nuclear weapons. The energy excuse is just a smoke screen.

Yes it is , inside Iran ... but USA is also for the hole world ... the arrogance , the hipocrisy of the "human rights"when , all USA wants is the oil( and the power over the world) ... wherever there is oil there goes the usa eagle ... always to "free" the people (and steal the oil), giving them the right to shut up and go to civil war , while americans sell (and experiment) new weapons to them ... don´t be dumb and ignorant , like americans usually are(they prefer to put their head in the hole or look the other way ) ... come outside your country(shell) and Understand why there´s so much hate against USA all over the world... ask yourself this question : There MUST be a reason for so much hate against us doesn´t it ?

We just got to face it. The entire area is primitive, sexist, and extremist. I dont have anything against Muslims, but you have to admit that the middle-east is far from perfect.

it's just propaganda. all governments use it to some degree or another.
if you actually go look up some of the iranian president's anti-semitic propaganda posters and compare them to those of hitler, you'll find that they are nearly identical.
