Is it true that some Muslims believe that when they die they will have a certain amount of virgins?

If that is so then is it consider "lust" or "vanity" to believe in or die for the sake of having 75 or so virgins at your disposal?
This is a sincere question, I am not downing a beliefs just trying to find out if its true and understand why.

Many of you explained the "reasons" of the virgins, but didn't answer the full question: is it all for "lust" or in "vanity"? What's the importance of having a "virgin"? does it all boil down to "sex"? and what about the women, are the men for them in heaven virgins also?

Anjel, Anjel! Don't you know that it is every man's dream to have virgins? Some dream about it. Some lust about it. Some die for a virgin and some will commit suicide for one. We women are a little different a little more realistic. We do not live in pipe dreams or wishes. Stupidity has always been a man thing since got created them. This is why they have incomplete sex chromosomes. The female chromosome is XX. The mail chromosome is XY which means it is deformed and missing a leg to make it an XX like the rest of us. There is also something missing in the male cranial cavity to go along with the XY. Just write it off as a dumb, dumb male thing. It isn't even worth being tied to Muslims because all of the other men have similar fantasies.

No where in Quran is written that good Muslims or even martyrs will get 72 or any number of virgins if a Muslim dies for the cause of Islam or defending his religion or country or kills Christians and Jews with suicide bomb.

It is western press that says such things to defame Islam.

Muslims don't need to die to get virgins in heaven. When God will resurrect all men and women at the end of world, we all will be at age 32- 33 and we all males and females will be virgins bcause we will get a new body.

God does promise in Quran that those who do good deeds in this life, pray God regularly and are pious people, they will be married to their wives on earth if they choose and if wish more than one, they will get more wives also. Same like they are allowed to have more than one in this life.

I have thought about the same thing and have wondered if some guy with a foot long beard who hasn't had a bath in two years blows himself up as a "martyr," thus qualifying for his 75 virgins - whatever did the poor virgins do to receive that kind of punishment? Obviously (and hopefully), we misperceive the faith.

Nothing in the Koran specifically states that the faithful are allotted 72 virgins apiece. For this elaboration we turn to the hadith, traditional sayings traced with varying degrees of credibility to Muhammad. Hadith number 2,562 in the collection known as the Sunan al-Tirmidhi says, "The least [reward] for the people of Heaven is 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome of pearls, aquamarine and ruby."

Yes it is true, most believe that.
The desire to have a # of Virgins while in the flesh sounds like lust to me.
In any case The Koran is nothing more than a whimsical plagiarism, that has taken many liberties in its original creation.

The number of virgins is not specified in Koran, it comes from a quotation of Muhammad recorded in one of the lesser known Hadith. ("Hadith" is an Arabic word meaning traditions. After Muhammad's death, several collections of his deeds and sayings were assembled. These collections are called Hadith and form the second most authoritative document is Islam, right after the Koran.)

According to the specific Hadith in which the number of virgins is specified is Hadith Al-Tirmidhi in the Book of Sunah (volume IV, chapters on The Features of Paradise as described by the Messenger of Allah, chapter 21, About the Smallest Reward for the People of Paradise. The same hadith is also quoted by Ibn Kathir in his Koranic commentary (Tafsir) of Surah Al-Rahman:

"The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]."

So it isn't the case that only martyrs get the virgins, but the only way to get the virgins is to get to heaven, and Koran is quite specific that the only way to be certain of getting to heaven is to die in Jihad.

Muslims believe thse who enter Heaven will live with angelic spouses .

The word pure and angelic has been translated as "VIRGINS".

Men and women will be given companions who are angelic in nature.

The misquotation and propaganda used in using a certain number like 72 or 75 is not solid since a Muslim will get whatever they want and most would want companions to be in the hundreds of millions over a time span of eternity.

first of all, muslim is not going to be in heaven directly, he should be a good person in general. otherwise he may go to hell for some time and then god send him back to heaven.
second, we r not dying for the sake of the *virgins*
our goal is to do our best to satisfy our god and when we die he give us one virgin as a gift.
3rd, anyone who dies ((not suicide)) in a hard way then the god will give him 72 virgin
e.g.. if someone died in a war against islam enemies
if someone died by a severe abdominal pain
died while he is seeking knowledge for human benefit
died by burning
died by drawning
and so many ways that i cannot emphasize now

definite, Muslims have self assurance if the die combating interior the call of Allah, they gets to have intercourse all of the time with virgins whilst they bypass to, what they call heaven. it isn't any longer powered by ability of lust, yet greater by ability of loss of existence interior the call of Allah. For the reason of Islam. the different non secular team who believes that's the Mormons. they have self assurance that they'll bypass directly to eternity and save on making 'celestial' babies. yet i think you're in basic terms informed this once you get into the better ranks. yet i'm open to correction here, maybe all of them have self assurance it.
