My sons husky is around 6 years old, from a different home, previous owner said he's skinny cuz of intimidation from another dog in their house, its not putting any weight on because it has constant farting and squirtting diarreah. I told my son take him to a vet cuz something isnt right. They think it will get better but its not. What can cause no weight gain, and the big D, stinky D. Im thinking parasites or worms. Maybe some kind of stomache problem? Thank you in advance for answering my question. Rick

your sons dog could have a bacterial infection he could have a food intolerance to certain dog foods,is your son worming regularly ,
I'm in the UK but if a dog presents with symptoms like this we would put the dog on a course of antibiotics first to see if it was bacterial and feed chicken and rice for seven days and see the dog again.
if it was still bad then we would take a sample and send it off for analysis.

Has the dog had all his vaccinations? Even though he is an older dog he can get parvo if not immunized. Most people think parvo is a puppy disease, but dogs can get it also. Why did the previous owner get rid of the dog? He might have known that there was something more seriously wrong with the dog and didn't want to spend the money to get the dog treated. At first I was thinking parasites or worms, but the diarreah concerns me. If your son won't take the dog to the vet, then you need to get the dog and take him to be checked. Good luck.

Just as people can become dehydrated by too much vomiting or diarrhea, pets can too. The dog definitely needs to go to the vet. He won't be able to put on weight until he is well.

Worms or other parasites could be causing the problem or it could be something more serious. You won't know until he is examined.

The longer your son waits, the more the dog is at risk.

If you want more "ammunition" to convince your son to take the dog to the vet, go to the public library and look for a veterinary guide for dogs. Dog Owners Home Veterinary Handbook is the title for one such book. I'm sure there are newer ones at your library. Research the dog's symptoms then tell your son what you have learned.

The vet should have run some standard tests for worms and stuff. Your son should have brought in a sample of the stool so the vet can check it, if not i'd go to another vet. One thing that will help reduce the diarreah is to feed him a diet of white rice & boiled chicken. after a few days, the diarreah should stop and you can slowly introduce food again.

If the dog is having diarrhea, definitely have a fecal test done to look for parasites. That's one of the first thing the vet should have done.

If it isn't a parasite, it could be intestinal problems. I hope they gave him some medicine to help with the diarrhea.

From what your saying it doesn't sound like that vet did much for him. I would get a second opinion.

It sounds like a digestive problem or inflammatory bowel syndrome. The dog could benefit from adding digestive enzymes to his food, adding some plain yogurt and trying him on a plain, boiled chicken and rice diet for a few weeks ( he would need the enzymes and a multivitamin.) The dog should go back to the vet for a test that shows how well he is digesting his food ( they just need a stool sample) Also, it could just be that he needs a different brand of dog food. What type of dog food does he eat?

Worms are a possibility, but a skinny 6 year old makes me think he could have a food insensitivity (allergy) or Inflammatory Bowel Disease. A thorough vet check and some testing are needed here.

Worms definitely can do this. Bad dog food will do it everytime. Good dog food with human food added here and there will do it.
Also, intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease or even cancer can do this.
He needs a good checkup! Good luck
