Compared to him, he figured they were of little faith. Sometimes he conflated faith and intellect and wisdom. None of his followers even came close to him in intellect. He might have dispaired on many occasions.

Experience shows that the demons do not all necessarily have the same interests or abilities. For example, some seem to concentrate on haunting houses, whereas other wicked spirits focus on harassing or possessing humans. And we may conclude from Jesus’ reply that some demons are especially powerful.—Ephesians 6:12.
While Jesus was on earth, God enabled some of his servants to cast out wicked spirits who possessed unfortunate individuals. The twelve apostles and seventy disciples were enabled to do so. (Matthew 10:8; Luke 10:17) But those of the apostles involved in the instance related in Matthew 17:14-20 and Mark 9:14-29 were unable to expel the demon. Why? What was lacking? Evidently it was the preparation called for in order to confront the sort of demon involved in this case. Strong faith was needed, along with prayer ahead of time requesting God’s empowering help. Though the accounts do not mention that Jesus offered a specific prayer in that case, he may have done so. Then he succeeded in casting out the powerful demon.

Because they were. When Jesus was arrested what did the disciples do? They all left. Oh sure John followed behind in the distance but nobody stayed right by his side and nobody was arrested with him. Peter even denied he knew Jesus and cussed at some one who called him a liar for this. I believe none of the Disciples fully understood what Jesus' purpose on earth was. Peter rebuked Jesus after Jesus explained that He must be killed and then arise from the dead 3 days latter. Matthew 16:21-23

Now however, after they all had seen Jesus alive they began to understand and fully believe. It wasn't until after they recieved the Holy Spirit that they fully understood.

Look people...In his time, Jesus was a rockstar...a controversial one of course, but none the less. The Disciples were his roadies. How much faith can you have when your job is to knock on doors and see who will feed 13 hungry jobless men, who just walk around and preach all day, no pay, asking for a soft bed now and then, new shoes, new clothes, I mean come on, these guys gave up their lives to follow this man around, no pay, no horses, no wagons, carts, the roman posse is always after you, the known world wants your bosses head on a platter..... The only benefit would be the best health insurance on the planet, and Jesus has sold many policies..

You miss-quote, Jesus was not speaking that his disciples were perverse, he was speaking about the whole generation was.
His disciples were making efforts to live right, however they were imperfect men and would require Jesus help to over come a fight with super wicked spirit creatures, and at Pentecost they got that help.

Isaiah, the place Jesus says in Matthew 17:21 "Howbeit this form goeth no longer out yet via prayer and fasting" I continuously assumed he became telling his disciples they might would desire to wish and quickly earlier tackling a devil of this "power" (for loss of a extra suited term). the define of the ailment of this boy sounds rather like some form of epilepsy to me, yet I doubt that has lots bearing. it is likewise achievable, right here, that he's advising this direction to the sufferer as properly. however the main ingredient I prefer to declare is that "prayer and fasting" are by no skill "works" or "deeds". Fasting is abstaining from food. The be conscious used right that's ???????? - ne?steia - nace-ti'-ah. Prayer and fasting are probably the quickest, maximum direct techniques we are able to petition our Father for faith. Scripture is full of descriptions of the prayers and fasts of the prophets, the saints, or perhaps the Lord Himself. i'm hoping this addresses your question.
