Trick or Treating is fine. Just be sure to weed out the small pieces, hard candies and gum. Offer some chocolate or something that is really easy for him to chew. DO NOT give candy to him to keep him from crying. I see nothing wrong w/ moderation-as a reward, not a bribe. My daughter is 3 and has had candy very few times. But Halloween is for getting candy and 2 is plenty old for that. Just don't give him candy every day or all the time. Good luck!

I don't think he is too young to have candy, but I think it is a bad idea to give it to him to make him stop crying. This will only be setting a precedent of giving him candy or food whenever he is upset. He may even pitch a fit just to get candy.

I think you could take him trick or treating to a couple of houses, but I wouldn't go all out. I would wait another year until he is old enough to really understand what is going on.

A little candy here and their aint never hurt anyone..well at least not my kids or my siblings. We took my son trick or treating last year, and he was only a year old....and my daughter was 10 months when she first went...ya i know thats young but she had alot of fun. If they have fun and it dont scare them then hey its alright. And as for the candy thing, my son is two and i think if i remember right he had his first M&M at about 1 year....they like the finger foods...things they can pick up with their fingers...and also the suckers..They are wonderful when they wont stop crying non-stop...

Don't give him candy to make him stop crying after a nap. That just teaches him that candy is a reward for crying. As for when to give a child candy, I say to hold off for as long as you can.

Yes, 2 yo is way too young! Besides the danger of choking on it, there's the craving it sparks, Once he gets a taste for it, he will hold out eating more nutritious foods for the sweet stuff, and then there's the dental aspects....
I would never "offer" my kids candy, or even have it around the house. If the bank teller offers it, well, I'm not such a big meanie as to say no in front of them, as long as it is a very occasional happening. If they do get to craving candy, they can save their allowance to buy their own, or wait for the Easter Bunny and Halloween.

Its never to young to enjoy Halloween, just make sure he doesn't get any of the candy. Personally, I don't think children should have any form of candy until they are at least age 10.

It is possible. I know a woman who taught her son that candy and sugar is evil, and he loves vegetables and fruit at age 5.

I think that is way too young. Just think of the dental and nutrition nightmare you are setting him up for! Not to mention the psychological implications of learning to gain comfort from food...
And you are bribing him to stop the behavior. Think of what this is teaching him..."Cry and you get candy."

We didn't give candy to our kids until they reached the age of 4 and then we regulated what they had and how much. 2 is definitely too young. And your reasons are in question.
How about hugging and playing to meet his needs rather than handing him sweets?

Teach him to enjoy healthy food and to want it to satisfy his hunger, not to turn to when he needs affection.

well if you want my opinion, parents shouldn't give thier children candy at all. Taking him trick or treating is fine but I wouldn't let him eat the candy. that's just me.

No, just as long as the candy is not too small so he will not swallow it.
