Every language has its difficulties and Spanish is no exception. However, comparatively speaking, it is one of the easier foreign languages for an English speaker to learn.

When I was in high school more students still took foreign languages than they do today. A common saying I use to hear was "If you can't learn Spanish, it's doubtful that you can learn any other foreign language." In other words, Spanish has always been considered a sort of litmus test for learning languages.

There are two or three Germanic languages, however, that I think would also be relatively easy for an English speaker to learn: 1) Afrikaans (a simplified form of Dutch spoken in South Africa); 2) Modern Norwegian ( a huge simplification over the Old Norse of the Vikings - has many North German loan words similar to Anglo-Saxon words in English) and Yiddish (a lingua franca formerly used by Jews in Northern Europe - a blend of German, Dutch and Middle English elements).

It is most likely the easiest language for a native English speaker to learn but becoming fluent at any language is hard even if it's Spanish.

The Spanish vocabulary is quite easy - a lot of words are familiar; more so if you know some French or Latin.

The hard part is the verbs - especially those with vowel changes.

Spanish is easy yes but I think you would be better off with German. German and English help you learn the other. English helps you learn german and german helps to improve your English.
