I play 4-5 times a week, am a 5 handicap, and go through about 30 a month. Some I loose, some are damaged, others just don't want to play and I donate them to the golf gods. So I would say 300 or so.

It depends on what kind of golf one plays. If you play by the book and look for every lost ball then you will use fewer balls. Sometimes you look for one lost ball but find two balls that are not your own. Some golfers may hit provisionals with expendable balls-"cuts" and not bother to look for it if gets lost. There are such a thing as floating golf balls that some people use around water hazards-it all depends.
