Not unless I had an gimmick or an image to strike their fancy. The average person has NO idea what is behind American Idol. Being one of the best singers auditioning doesn't give you a spot. I am so sorry to say, they aren't looking for the best singers persay. They are looking for people who can sell their show. If you look odd, if you have a hard backstory, if you have a country accent, if you are very young and will appeal to teens, if you are a hot looking girl, all these things are what gets you through. It isn't how well you sing alot of the time. They purposely mix great singers with "so-so" singers to give some climax to the show. Plus, they know the better singers will carry the weaker singers in group settings. So, although I haven't and would NEVER audition for the show, I always tell anyone who does don't be upset if you aren't chosen. For some, it isn't because you aren't talented. You just aren't what they are looking for, and you just didn't fill the quota that they had. And think about it, if they where concerned about singing talent, why is that Paula Abdul a judge! It wasn't because she could sing! LOL!
I know a guy who made it though the finals, but didn't make it to the 12. He wasn't a great singer, but he had an out of this world personality. Professionals around here call him a buffoon, and most people don't take him seriously. He doesn't get jobs as frequently. So that should tell you something about the show. Now don't get me wrong, there have been some incredible singers come out of there like Carrie Underwood, Ruben Studdard, Jennifer Hudson. But we know for many that do make it through, someone out there was better. They just didn't have the story or the personality that interested the show. So people, keep that in mind if you do want to audition.
If you know in your heart you are going to be a professional and you are going to be a star, why gothrough that avenue? The bottom line is, most of the hottest stars around didn't go through American Idol. Nor where they locked down into a ridiculous contract that doesn't allow you to have freedom. The way to go is networking and working in your craft. That is more of a guarantee then American Idol.
