I'd like to know what "Dear Foreigner" is in german. Dear as in what you write when you write a letter.

I know foreigner is Auslander with the two dots above the second a, but what is dear?

My last name is Auslander. So i want to know what you'd say if you said Dear Auslander in a letter...and hopefully make it a pun too.

The term "Lieber Ausländer" would certainly be the correct translation of "Dear foreigner", but it isn´t used in Germany. We say "Liebe ausländische Mitbürger", if they live among us for a long time, or "Liebe Gäste aus dem Ausland" if they just came for a visit or for holidays.

If Auslander is your surname, a letter to you would start with "Liebe Frau Auslander", if the writer is knowing you well, or "Sehr geehrte Frau Auslander", if a strange person is writing to you.

Lieber Fremder (if with foreigner you don't necessarily mean someone from another country, but someone who is not close to you)
