I always had good friends.
Not drinking was cool.
Not smoking was cool.
Swearing was not cool.
Drugs were not cool.
We had loads of fun on bizarre, creative dates. It wasn't all about getting cozy and getting some action.
For the most part I enjoyed scouts, enjoyed the church activities, and feel like I learned a lot as a result.
I felt like I had quite a mature outlook on life from a fairly young age.
I would DEFINITELY send them to EFY (Especially For Youth) when they can go (14 or so years old). It's a powerful program for youth and it changed my life. (By the way, they can go even if they haven't been baptized yet).
Get them to the summer Youth Conferences as well.

First off, congratulations! You will be warmly welcomed by the members where you live. They will give you a lot of support as you learn more and more about the Church.
There is a lot of support within the Church. I raised my children in the Church, and found it a wonderful place for children.
I converted as an adult, so cannot speak from the perspective of a child or teen in the Church, but can share examples from my children.
My children all went to Primary, and enjoyed it a lot. They had a lot of fun in Primary, and at Primary activities. My boys enjoyed Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. My girls enjoyed going to Young Women activities, Girls' Camp, and spending time with their Young Women leaders. My boys enjoyed spending time with the men in our wards and branches, and looked up to them as role models.
The weekly lessons and activities help the children and youth learn the gospel, and how to apply it. The leaders are there as role models and friends. The bishop (or branch president) is there to help you and your children.
I would suggest that you talk with the missionaries, the members, and the bishop about your questions and concerns. They can help you a lot more than a message board can.

I'm Mormon and sadly, I don't know what it is to grow up in the church since I converted a few months ago at the age of 18. Legally I'm an adult but according to myself hey NO WAY!. I'm still growing up and the church is the reason that makes me want to be a better person, it makes me feel closer to God and feel like never before. I know many people (especially missionaries) that grew up in the church and are members since they have memory and they all have shown that they love the church and are like people who are a good example to follow.
Your girls will learn all you want them to learn in Young Woman. They teach them good principles there and how to live a worthy life and be Christ-like. It is totally not boring so they will love it! I'm glad that you are considering the church. Email me and let me know how is it going! ^_^

I encourage your continued study of the Church and the Gospel. I grew up in the Church and learned the lifestyle in an active Mormon family. Primary is especially for children 18 months to 12 years. They have classes and activities that are age appropriate to help them learn the Gospel concepts and to prepare them for the teen years and eventually adulthood. The young men and young women have their own activities and classes to help them through the teen years and to prepare them for adulthood. For the boys, it is scouting and priesthood. For the girls, it is the young women's program, including girl's camp. I have never met a young woman that didn't love girl's camp. I thoroughly appreciated my scouting activities as a teen. My daughters have all loved the young women's programs and grown into beautiful adults (I mean that as people, not just physically). Unfortunately, my boys have not had the same success with the young men's programs as I had. They have all gone inactive for now. I hope that they will one day return to the comfort of the spirit that only activity in the Gospel can provide. When I say activity in the Gospel, I don't mean just activity in the Church. Those are two different things. Church activity really helps with the social togetherness and certainly aids your Gospel activity. But Gospel activity means feeling the spirit in your heart and being activily engaged in good works, service to others, loving and caring for one another as Jesus taught us to be.
Please continue and you will not be disappointed.

There definitely are great resources and guidance for teens who are having problems. There is a great young women's program (that I just got out of a year ago-I'm too old for it now). My leaders from that program are now good friends, and there are fun activities to help us meet other youth with the same standards. Good luck and I wish you success in your decision. :)

Yes, we do give guidance for young girls. We have the, Beehives, Mia Maids and Laurels. When you leave Primary at twelve, you start with the Beehives and end with the Laurels. After that, you go to Relief Society at eighteen. They go over God, marriage, behavior, abstinence, clothing, alcohol, drugs and many other things. If you have any questions, you can go to http://www.lds.org/youthresources/pdf/ForStrengYouth36550.pdf
