Mary had no other children of her own, she was step mother to Josephs 6 children from a previous marriage.

When forty years of age, Joseph married a woman called Melcha or Escha by some, Salome by others; they lived forty-nine years together and had six children, two daughters and four sons, the youngest of whom was James (the Less, "the Lord's brother"). A year after his wife's death, as the priests announced through Judea that they wished to find in the tribe of Juda a respectable man to espouse Mary, then twelve to fourteen years of age. Joseph, who was at the time ninety years old, went up to Jerusalem among the candidates; a miracle manifested the choice God had made of Joseph, and two years later the Annunciation took place.

Praying to saints and Puurgatory are both biblical

Rom 6:3-4
Or are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised

You can read about purgatory above.

Mary was born without the stain of original sin She was FULL of GRACE

The Rosary is completely biblical comes from the book of Luke.

Infant baptisim does one thing and one thing only, it removes the stain of original sin. Jesus said to bring all the children to Him.

Confessing to a priest is biblical. Jesus gave the power to the Apostles to forgive sins. Being Peter was the first Pope the authority has passed down for over 2,000 years, apostolic succession.

Confirmation is confirming your faith in Jesus.

We should all fast certain times of the year
God said, "When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you" (Jeremiah 29:13,14). When a man or woman is willing to set aside the legitimate appetites of the body to concentrate on the work of praying, they are demonstrating that they mean business, that they are seeking God with all their heart.

Fasting is an expression of wholeheartedness. This is clear from Joel's call to the nation of Israel: "Yet even now," says the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting. . ." (Joel 2:12).
"Then the followers of John came to Jesus and said, 'Why do we and the Pharisees often fast for a certain time, but your followers don't?' Jesus answered, 'The friends of the bridegroom are not sad while he is with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.'" (Matthew 9:14-15).

Now Jesus is no longer physically present with us. He will not be until His second coming.

Everything Catholics do is biblical

Just to respond to a couple of answers that seem to prove the point that we Catholics follow traditions of men.

Impossible_dream said in regards to those 'traditions' as being false:

1) Perpetual Virginity of Mary- Though she was a virgin upon conceiving Jesus, the Bible says Joseph did not have marital relations (sex) with her UNTIL AFTER she gave birth to Jesus.

I respond:
This word ‘until’ in Greek is ‘heos’, translates for ‘until or before’, and does not imply anything about what happens after the time indicated. In the Bible the Greek and Hebrew words for ‘until’ means only that some action did not happen to a certain point. Scholars are in agreement on this point. For example, Dr William Hendricksen, the former Professor of New Testament Literature at Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan writes:

"This conclusion cannot be based merely upon the negative plus ‘until’. That wording does not always introduce an event (in this case: she gave birth to a son) whereby the earlier situation (the couple had no sexual relations) is reversed (they now begin to have sexual relations).”

Consider 2 Sam 6:23, Is 46:4 and Psalm 110:1 as examples. 2 Sam 6:23 “As to Michal daughter of Saul, she had no child till the day of her death”…does it mean that Michal had children after the day of her death? Or Is 46:4 “I Am till you grow old”…does it mean that when they grow old God ceases to be? Or again in Psalm 110:1 “The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”…Shall he sit no longer after his enemies are subdued? This verse ‘he knew her not until…’, the last one of Matthew 1, is Matthews’ summary, or corollary, or bottom line, of all the previous verses 18-24, on how the conception of Jesus happened, without any intervention of Joseph…to interpret it in any other way, and specially as that Joseph had sexual relations with the Virgin Mary after the birth of Jesus, is to change the whole meaning of the chapter.

You also posted:
4.Mary having also been immaculately concieved. Nothing in the Bible even close to that.

I respond:
Did you ever read Gen 3:15 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."?

My dictionary defines 'enmity' as a deep-seated, often mutual hatred of your enemy. Now, if we sin we do not have a true enmity between us and Satan. Isn't sinning to take Satan's side? Doesn't this mean that to have enmity between Mary and Satan would mean that Mary would never have sinned? I believe it does. And there are other Biblical reasons why we Catholics believe in the Immaculate Conception.

There are many other errors in your conclusions but there is only enough room to tackle two.

God Bless

It is lower Heaven if protestants don't like purgatory: 1 Corin 3:15 If the work is burned, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire. Save only thru cleansing fire. Matthew 12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Sins are forgiven in the age to come: even idle words are cleansed in lower heaven...

Worthy information that you would think would lay to rest all the misconceptions that Protestants have but I doubt it, they have been drilled since birth to resent and protest against Catholicism, that the nature of the beast.

I do have a problem though with the info regarding St.Joseph being ninety when he married Mary,it just doesn`t sit right,I would have put him around forty to fifty yrs old myself.

Mary was not just virginal after the birth of Jesus but remained so for the remainder of Her life as She had been dedicated to the Lord as a child(see Catherine Emmerich) and so it is more factual to call Her `Ever Virgin`
There is also no real proof that Jesus even had half Brothers or Sisters as even scholars know and agree that the terms brother and sister applied to those connected in faith to God, Peter used this term of endearment often when he spoke to the believers.
I am not criticizing your post but just adding my thoughts to it.

i don't know. i'm lutheran. i probably follow a lot of the same ''man-made traditions.''

edit- for the record, you can find examples of confession and absolution throughout both the old and new testaments. infant baptism and the real presence of Christ during the Eucharist come from the new testament, not from anywhwere else. and by the way, the phrase ''hocus pocus'' started out as a way for calvin to mock the practice of Holy Communion. he slurred the words ''hoc est corpus Meum,'' (study up on your latin, guys) and basically accused the church of sorcery, all because they used the words that were written in the bible, translated into latin.

Hi Tebone!

Actually, I have learned to distinguish between 'Protestants', and that subset that is rabidly anti-Catholic, and most specially, those 'professional' anti-Catholics!

You might be surprised that Lutherans (I believe one answered your question), are really very CLOSE to Catholics in doctrine and practice. I do appreciate the fact that he/she said that he/she probably follows those supposedly 'man-made' traditions himself!

By the by, I sent you an email and I am waiting for your reply.

Making teaching of the Church equal in authority with the Bible seems suspect to me, a tradition of the Popes. Do we really believe St Augustine was as close to God as the original apostles? With him, quite a lot of pagan philosophy such as Manicheeism (spelling may be wrong) has slipped into to his teaching. I think the idea that priests should be unmarried may come from indian philosophic ideas of the body being sinful; that is not a true christian view imo.

'Traditions of men' of other varieties have probably been taught in many denominations.

We protestants probably also have our traditions of men.

Added .. since you catholics are rather mean - fine christians I suppose (I don't think I'll bother answering catholic questions again - you can steep in your presumed superiority.)
I see there is a spirit of "Thumbs down those who insult the Pope". Like Mohammed, he's just a man! Don't put a man before Jesus - he's flesh and blood like you. Some Popes were not very morally pure as I'm sure catholics will admit - is it really appropriate to rate their ideas on a par with Paul and Peter ?

eh, i think there were a couple of them, but protestants do to:)
the rosary may be one, the candle lighting thing, hail mary's proportionate to type/severity of sin.

Woah!! okay, lets do a bit of a test to see which are the real Christians protestants. .or catholics

Do you sin????? Yes? u are a slave to sin and don't know God. . . Do you follow His commands? Are you being saved by His grace? Is He truly the LORD of your life?
in other words it has nothing to do with being protestant or catholic. both have man made traditions. . and its pointless to argue over who is correct. I think we could have learned that by now. people are going to talk about what they've heard others say. . .in the words of George Fox. . . stop arguing about Christ and let Him teach you, purify you and fill you with his power and grace.

P.S. im not even gonna lie. . i know i am not a true christian either. . :(

I don't know why you petition your prayers through anyone other that God or Jesus. It also seems like some Catholics make alters to saints, when it states in the Bible alters are for God alone. Any why do you have to confess your sins to a priest instead of to God? Why does a priest give you a "repentance?" Jesus already paid your debt. Why must you say "Hail Marys" when Jesus knew we were weak, sinful creatures, and died for our sins. It's almost sacrilege to me that Catholics think they have to preform some sort of self punishment, when Jesus already took care of it for us.

Believe me when I say I am not judging the Catholic religion. I am not familiar enough with the Catholic religion to know any other examples.

They can only spout off the propaganda that has been pushed on them by their "Christian" church. Do not expect any new insights here. Actually studying up on a religion's traditions before bashing it is not their strong suit.

1. Perpetual Virginity of Mary- Though she was a virgin upon conceiving Jesus, the Bible says Joseph did not have marital relations (sex) with her UNTIL AFTER she gave birth to Jesus.

2. Praying to saints: Man made, no one in the Bible ever prayed to any dead person

3. Purgatory - nothing Biblical about it

4.Mary having also been immaculately concieved. Nothing in the Bible even close to that.

5. The Pope being a mouth piece of God.

6. Mary performing any miracles at all aside from giving birth to Jesus.

7. Wearing medals, saying rosaries, kissing the feet of statues. Man made... nothing the Bible encourages.

8. Infant baptism... though it doesnt hurt anything directly, it was never practiced in the Bible and the infant may grow up thinking its not necessary.

9. Confessing to a priest for forgiveness... and/or serving penance

10. Confirmation. Nothing Biblical about it, it's just a tradition in which to have a party.

11. The Infant of Prague: The more you dress me the more I will bless thee?? Ummm very man made.

12: Do not eat meat on Fridays.. changed later to "do not eat meat on Fridays during lent" Nothing Biblical in that

Need more?

What you quoted about Joseph is not in the Bible, it is in a text by man. What you quote about praying to saints and purgatory says nothing in regards to praying to saints or purgatory. Ya might really want to delete this question before you look foolish.
