I just bought a new computer, with Win Vista (Home Premium, 32 bits) installed. No re-installation disk and no (evident) software to create such disks.
Which software should I use to make an image of it so I can re-install it "clean" later?
(Long ago, on antoher PC, I used Norton Ghost... Is it still the best software? Does it work with Win Vista?)

First, most of todays laptops do not come with recover cd's, instead that have a partition on the hard drive that contains this data. It is usually called "D".
If you still need to image your hard drive you will need a program that runs outside of windows. Ghost is still the best. And yes, since it is Ghost that "boots" the computer it doesn't matter what the operating system is.

Many computers are now being sold with the re-installation program and files on a separate partition. Check the documentation that came with your new computer. It should tell you if you need to create a boot disk or not and how to get into the "Recovery" partition if you ever need to.
Failing that, yes Ghost is still around and works very well. It is owed and sold by Symantec now, not Norton.

In partition C:, top click and shrink partition and from the Unallocated Partition, you could create partition D:
