Teaching our children empathy towards nature and people would be the preferred way of preparing them for life in the real world.
They would also have to learn of the pathology that religions bring in order to deal with the people and institutions now affected by it.

Yes, definitely.
But you have to remember that this is a religious planet. Doesn't matter what religion you believe or don't believe. Children still need to be taught of all different religions...at least a few fundamental beliefs and stories. That way they can grow to adults with empathy toward other people's religious beliefs, and the knowledge they need to make their own religious decisions.

Yes but you must follow my brand of empathy since it is the one true empathy.
Or I will declare war.
Ot purge the non-empathatic.
What about American D. He has empathy out of fear and self interest.
A new concept for me. Didn't know it could be done.

Yes. Children often sadly lack empathy and are cruel and thoughtless. Religion is important but empathy would be far more useful and might prevent bulliyng later on.

The bible says there is true and false religion. This is what it says about true religion...."true religion and undefiled before God is this, to visit the fatherless and the widow in their affliction and to remain unspotted from the world." That IS empathy in the truest since is it not? I mean it's easy to have sympathy for someone, but to empathize is to be there with the individual as the go through whatever they go through. It is supposed to be the main characteristic of a Christian because that is the example that Jesus left us before He went to the cross and He is there with me through every trial and storm of life that I go through. Peace

You can't teach empathy. It's caused by Mirror Neurons.

Yes, it would. The catch is, that if I teach true Christianity, and not fundamentalism, empathy will be taught as well as other beneficial things like love of all people and patience and humility: all things fundamentalists seem sorely to lack.

I'm not sure I am aware of the difference. I mean, if you have empathy, then there is a reason you have it. If there is no god, then there is no need to feel empathy, because you have nothing to lose by being totally selfish.
